The U.S. Census Bureau is Hiring in Our Area!
Are you looking for ways to help your community?
|
The U.S. Census Bureau is currently hiring temporary positions for the 2020 Census in our area. All 2020 Census jobs are temporary, and the largest number of positions available are for census takers. Pay rates vary by area. By working for the Census Bureau, you can help them reach their goal for the 2020 Census to ensure everyone is counted. Census counts have a huge impact on our community. The 2020 Census data will be used to determine how more than $675 billion from more than 100 government programs are distributed to states and localities, including
Sandy Springs
. The data influences choices made about which roads are fixed, where schools are built and businesses opened, what medical services are offered, and more. If you’re interested, please visit the Census Bureau job site to apply. You’ll also be able to see descriptions and frequently asked questions at

World Water Monitoring Day with
Springmont Montessori School Students
|
|
In September, the City celebrated World Water Monitoring Day by hosting a water testing activity for ten students from the Springmont Montessori School, grades 1 – 8, at Big Trees Forest Preserve. Before testing water quality in creek, the students learned about the
water cycle, runoff, and indicators of stream health. The students conducted water monitoring in one of the streams running through the park, which included testing for turbidity, pH levels, temperature, and dissolved oxygen levels. The students were educated about what their testing results revealed about the quality of water in the stream.

In December, visitors to the City's
Recreation and Parks registration page
will notice some big changes. The new registration site will be easier to navigate and offer features to streamline the registration process. For example, you will be able to filter programs to only view those suitable for each child you are registering. Profile information will migrate to the new site, but users will be notified by email when it is time to set up a new password. The current site will remain active at least through the end of November for users wishing to make copies of receipts or program registration history as that will not carry over to the new system.
