Looking Forward To The Return Of In-Person Learning

It has been a quiet twelve months at IHN campuses, without the hustle and bustle of radiant students. We eagerly await updates from the Ministry on when we can reopen. For now, all of IHN's students will continue to learn online. Our on-site classrooms may be temporarily vacant, but our virtual classrooms buzz with high spirits all week. We remained in step with the evolution of digital learning and were proud to offer IHN Online 25 years after planting our roots with a single classroom on Merton Street in Toronto. Today, we have eleven classrooms, in four campuses across Canadaare online worldwideand with determination, throughout last year's turbulence, are still intact.

We are in deep gratitude to our faculty, administration, Co-op partners, and most of all our current students and amazing November 2020 graduates. They were the first to pivot with us. They faced the most acute change and overcame their own challengesevery dayas they settled into a whole new way of learning and ultimately achieving. We have made lifelong connections with students over the years and truly miss the passionate pandemonium before and after class each day! With the necessary precautions, that are an imperative to get back into the physical space, we wait for permission to laugh, learn and eat lunch together again!

A Solution That Supports The Environment

Globally, we are using six million disposable face masks each day, and a team in Australia is determined to keep them out of our landfills. In a February 5, 2021, Good News Network article (4 minute read), “Recycled Face Masks Added to Road Building Material to Reduce Waste”, we learn about an eco-friendly solution that also saves money. It turns out that three million masks, including their polypropylene plastic, plus road-paving mixture, can make one kilometre of road. The final product, according to researcher Jie Lie, is cheaper, flexible, durable, and “more resistant to wear than normal asphalt.”

It’s believed that the word ‘salmon’ comes from the Latin word salmo or salire, which means “to leap”–fitting if you’ve ever witnessed this fish swimming upstream. Considered a brain food, salmon is rich in omega-3 fatty acids that may help lower the risk of heart disease, depression, dementia, and arthritis. Salmon is an excellent source of protein, which has a number of important functions in the body that include helping to repair and rebuild the body’s tissues, allowing biochemical reactions to take place, coordinating bodily functions, and providing energy. Try this Baked Salmon with Kale Lemon Pesto from IHN graduate Joy McCarthy.
