in the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis

Summertime, and the livin' is easy, and, as we all also know, living is anything but easy nationally and around the world. It is more and more necessary to have support to keep our spirits up and on task. Here's hoping we all have that support in the Eucharistic prayer with our parish communities. It's about the Kingdom of God as Jesus said. It is among us.
CCCR/Council of the Baptized is keeping at it. Today we sent our proposal to the Archbishop for a two-way communication channel between him and the people in the pews. The idea is that he could establish a Lay Advisory Council. The members of that Council will come from the 15 parish Deaneries throughout the Archdiocese. On average, there are 12 parishes to each of the 15 deaneries. Each parish will send a delegate to its Deanery Council. We keep reminding ourselves, there is no "church" without communication.
This will be your chance to have a voice. Let's say your conscience is urging you to speak up about a problem you see. You go to your parish delegate; he/she takes your concern to the Deanery Council. The Deanery Council rep takes it to the Archbishop's Lay Advisory Council. If you want to present it yourself, get on the agenda for your Deanery Council meeting or the Archbishop's Lay Advisory Council. Click here to read the proposal. Another task we have set ourselves: You may have heard Archbishop Hebda on the MPR Kerri Miller show. He answered questions about the bankruptcy and the procedures for safe environment. He also mentioned a future Archdiocesan Synod. Our CCCR/Council of the Baptized team is following up on that possibility, offering our help (yours too!).

Where do we go from here?
Tim O'Malley, Director of the Office for Ministerial Standards and Safe Environment, will talk with us about the work his office has done to prevent abuse and cover up ever happening again. We have to build trust that the administrators are paying close attention to that, and that they are looking seriously into why abuse and cover up happened in the first place.

SHINING THE LIGHT OF VATICAN II: Where are the People of God in the Church of St. Paul and Minneapolis?
Jackie Graham, Liturgical Minister at St. Thomas Becket parish in Eagan, will talk with us about how we see ourselves in relation to the development of Vatican II reforms.
The Archdiocese of St. Paul/Minneapolis has been seen as a diverse community of faith which has room for St. Agnes Parish on one end of the spectrum, St. Joan of Arc Parish on the other and everything else in between. Is that still the case? What is the experience of the people in the pews each Sunday? And how is the Church perceived by those who aren't in the pews? Where is the Archdiocese going with respect to the teachings of Vatican II and how does this impact parishes, the ministers who serve them and our mission of evangelization?
