Trustee Report of Updates around Noel
The Board of Trustees of Noel Church has been quite active in the last six months or so in maintaining our beautiful facilities. In order to keep our spaces ready for ministry and worship, we have been busy on the following projects since late 2018 until present:

  •  Replaced water piping in all bathrooms in the Activity Building
  •  Replaced water pipe manifold (from old galvanized to new copper) in Activity  Building
  •  Made drainage improvements for the Garden Area with new guttering
  •  Installed new rubber-type fall protection for the playground and improved the drainage as well
  • Replaced the pavement between the Activity Building and the Gym
  • Contacted McInnis Construction to evaluate roof and waterproofing leaks from previous construction
  • Hired a consultant to evaluate the Sanctuary Building for intrusion of water, to include roofing and waterproofing
  • Contracted for the replacement of the roof on the Children's Building

Your ongoing support of Noel, combined with gifts from prior years, make these improvements possible.
We are blessed with a generous congregation who care for this place we call our church home. Thank you!

Mission Moments: Highland Block Party 2019

On April 6, Noel hosted a Block Party for our Highland neighbors and it was a great success! We served over 250   people hots dogs and hamburgers with all the fixins, played yard games, held free health screenings, colored with       sidewalk chalk, praised God with music and much, much more. Noel is blessed to call the Highland neighborhood home and I am continuously impressed by how our members show the love of God through events like this and look     forward to many more. Hope to see you at the next one!

The rain may have caused us to move the party inside to the gym and lowered attendance compared to previous years, but it did not effect our mission which was continued in the   ministry of leftover food being distributed to area Veterans' Homes and Friendship Houses.

Rev. Mimi McDowell -- Renewal Leave

Dear Noel Family,

With the support of our church leaders, I am fortunate to have received approval for a six-week renewal leave August 19 - September 29.  According to our Book of Discipline, clergy who have been in full time ministry for at least six years may take a spiritual renewal leave of up to six months while continuing to hold an appointment in the local church. In my thirteen years of ministry (including three prior to my appointment at Noel), I had not yet made space for this opportunity to rest and recharge. I am grateful to our Staff Parish Relations Committee, Church Council, and District Superintendent for their support in this important time of renewal.

This is a time for me, as your Minister of Congregational Care, to fill up my cup. Pastoral ministry, like so many of our vocations, can drain our spiritual tanks. And when my cup isn't filled to the brim, my ministry among you is less than it could be. As I have shared with you before, I am a natural introvert, so I when I have expended a great deal of my energy I need time away and alone to recharge. It often takes getting away for a bit from the 24/7 nature of   ministry to truly refresh, refill, and allow God to fill us back up.

I absolutely love this congregation and my ministry at Noel, and I want to be the very best I can be so that I can offer my very best to you. In order to do that, I will be disconnecting for a period of six weeks. What will I be doing for this time of spiritual renewal? First, I hope to rest and recharge my spiritual batteries. I want to use this time as a way to reconnect with spiritual disciplines and engage in some new ones.

I have several things planned for my time away, including a writer's retreat, a trip to the mountains and spending time with extended family and friends. Much of the time will be one of solitude, retreat and reflection. I will be preaching on August 18, the day before my leave begins, and will share more with you at that time. Upon my return, I look forward to sharing with you about my experiences and what I learned from my time away.

Rest assured that you will be well taken care of during my absence. Rev. Humphries, Rachel Scott and our Perkins intern, Jeff Foster, along with our congregational care lay ministers will continue to address any congregational needs. Thank you, my wonderful congregation, for supporting me in this time away. I will look forward to my return to "my home."

Blessings,

Mission Moments: Mexico Mission Trip

A group from Noel and other churches traveled to Juarez, Mexico on Spring Break to minister to and with the people there.  We built a house for a family of 8 living in a one room house that was very flimsy. Thanks to our congregation, the cost of the house was covered by the Brick Sales that raised over $3000!  We worshiped with the   community at the church of Proyecto Abrigo, El Nuevo Pacto, and had some time to see other parts of the city.

We know that God led us there, strengthened us for the tasks of building, and gave us new friends and brothers and sisters in Christ.  And a family has a brand new home and new hope for their future!

Noel's Food Pantry: Celebrating our Volunteers!

In March, Noel Food Pantry held a Volunteer Training!  Rachel Scott, Vickie Young, Linda Perkins, and Alberta Statom presented training on the food pantry's   purpose, listening skills, the role of the Neighborhood Ministries Board of  Directors, and safety training.

In-depth training was offered for computer,   greeter, and bagging volunteers.  If you are interested in being a Food Pantry volunteer, contact Director Peggy Hamiter, 424-0434 or [email protected]

In February, 60+ volunteers were honored at a Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon   hosted by Neighborhood Ministries' Board of Directors.  It was an afternoon of     wonderful food & music by Super Senior Singers!

Maureen Trussell, above, was celebrated for her 34 years (and counting) as a volunteer in Noel's Food Pantry. She was among the founding group who began the Food Pantry Ministry with just a few clients in May of 1985.
