I've been reading "What If It All Goes Right?" by Mendhi Audlin and practicing "What If Upping?"

What if, what?!

The two words "What If" hold within them the power to create and the power to destroy. Our success or our failure depends on how we make use of the power of these two little words.

In our culture we practice a lot of "What If Downing" -
  • What if no one listens to my idea?
  • What if I'm not qualified enough?
  • What if I fail and I embarrass myself?
In contrast, "What If Upping" expands possibilities, raises your energy, creates what you desire - and is fun!

I was "What If Upping" around receiving a particular full-time work contract, raising my vibration, and feeling quite upbeat. Then I slid into "What If Downing" to "What if it doesn't come through and I feel disappointed?" But I didn't stay there.

Still, it got me pondering "So what if I feel disappointed?" - that's part of having the human experience. As I was growing up, I often heard people opine to not get too hopeful for fear of being disappointed (they weren't happy campers, I can tell you!). But really, what's so wrong with that, with disappointment? To not acknowledge and feel it, in turn does not honor me and the full experience of life. It's avoidance about things we deem to be "bad" when in fact, we never really know what is "bad" and what is "good." Everything is a blessing.

It's up to us how we choose to respond to every person, situation, event. Sure, we don't need to mire in what is uncomfortable but it's balanced to experience that as well as what is comfortable. From there, the practice is to bring oneself into the present moment where all is neutral.

As I look to creating my future, I invoke "What If Upping" because it is powerful, healthy, and joyful. If something less so/different comes along, I honor it, and view it from a spiritual, higher perspective.

Blessings,

Internal Work

Rilke in 1900
Perhaps everything that frightens us is, in its deepest essence, something helpless that wants our love.

Why do you want to shut out of your life any uneasiness, any misery, any depression, since after all, you don't know what work these conditions are doing inside of you?"

The Holiest Orange

From you I receive, to you I give.
Together we share, from this we live.
- Rabbis Joseph and Nathan Siegel

On the Jewish holiday of Purim, it is the custom for neighbors to visit each other's houses with gifts of fruit. One Purim, three men on a business trip found themselves miles from civilization with but one orange between them. One man took the orange in his hands, held it close to his heart, turned to another man and told him, "My dear Chaim, with this orange I give you all my love, and I pray that God grants you a life of peace and plenty."

Chaim appreciatively accepted the orange and faced the third man, telling him, "My brother Yosef, this is a symbol of my deepest thanks for your friendship in my life. I wish you all the happiness your heart desires."

Yosef, nearly in tears, received the fruit and turned to the first man. "Beloved Jacob, you are a true man of God. May the angels of mercy walk by your side and return to you a thousand-fold all the good you give."

Jacob received the orange and, brimming with ecstasy, gave it to Yosef again with an additional blessing. So the three men went on all night, adding more and more to the orange until their souls were filled beyond measure."

Milk Carton to Pizza Box

"Growing up, we used to have missing children on milk cartons," John Sanfratello told "Good Morning America." "Why can't the pizza box be the milk carton of today, but for animals?"

Locating Your Lost or Stolen Phone

If you've lost your phone or perhaps it was stolen, there are services to locate it. However, your phone must be able to receive some sort of signal (cellular, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or GPS) in order for these phone locator services to work. So, if your phone is turned off, the battery has died, or if you lost your phone while hiking in a remote area, your chances of recovery are slim to none.

Android phone:
Immediately try to locate the phone using the Find My Device service. You can use Find My Device via Google's web interface and locate a phone you own via its GPS location data. If you don't have access to a desktop or laptop computer, you can ask a friend with an Android phone to open the Find Device app on their phone. You'll have to know your Google username and password to login to the service.

If your device is turned on and can be reached via cellular or Wi-Fi signal, its location will appear on a Google map. You can also make it ring, lock the device, or remotely wipe all data with a factory reset. You'll want to use the latter option only as a last resort, because it can't be undone, and it will permanently erase all your apps, photos, music, settings, etc.

Apple iPhone:
You can use the Find My service via the Web or the Find My app on another Apple device. Find My will display the current location of your iPhone on a map, and also where it's been. You can optionally lock your phone make it play a sound, or display a contact number that can be called from the Lock Screen. The remote erase feature wipes everything, but you can restore from an iCloud backup.

If your iPhone is turned on but offline, Find My can help you locate it by sending out Bluetooth signals that can be detected by nearby Apple devices. If another device picks up the signal, it will relay the location of your device to iCloud so it can be located with the Find My app.

Top of Mind

Personally and/or in your business, you meet numerous people who are looking to sell you insurance, communications equipment, or any number of other things with no obligation, initial cost, etc. These folks have a solution and are hoping to find people with a problem they can solve right now(!) with their product/service. It's time consuming for them and the return on their investment is not high since most of us are not in the market.

But newsletters, blogs, podcasts, and other repetitive content-publishing strategies are very effective because they remove timing from the equation.
Basically, they are an excuse for staying in front of potential clients and referral sources today and into the future, building trust and comfort with you and your approach along the way. It's not just a one-time interaction.

With this approach, people come to you when they are ready for your product/service, instead of you relying on finding a "hot prospect" at just the right time.

I had one newsletter subscriber who regularly opened my monthly publication. After FOUR YEARS, he contacted me for help with both his newsletter and multiple websites!

With Constant Contact newsletter campaigns, you can stay in front of people so that when they are in the market for your product/service, you will be the one top of mind.

Using the Gutenberg/Block Editor

The Block Editor is literally where all the innovation in the WordPress space is happening.

While the Block Editor may be very good, you may think: If the Classic Editor is working for me, why would I switch?

The Block Editor is only step one in a longer process. More and more parts of the WordPress admin will start using blocks, and because of that, getting familiar with the Block Editor is essential.

Here are some reasons to use the Block Editor now:
  • You are able to build layouts that you can't make in TinyMCE.
  • Simple things like images next to paragraphs and other things that could be painful in TinyMCE have become so much better in Gutenberg. Multiple columns are easy to create without extra coding.
  • You can embed tables in your content just by adding a table block; no plugins are required.
  • Creating custom blocks is relatively simple, and allows people to do 90% of the custom things they would do with plugins in the past, but more easily.
  • Re-usable blocks allow you to easily create content you can re-use across posts or pages.

It is October 31, Halloween, a celebration with its roots in the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain.

The Celts, who lived 2,000 years ago, mostly in the area that is now Ireland, the United Kingdom and northern France, celebrated their new year on November 1.

This day marked the end of summer and the harvest and the beginning of the dark, cold winter, a time of year that was often associated with human death. Celts believed that on the night before the new year, the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead became blurred. On the night of October 31 they celebrated Samhain, when it was believed that the ghosts of the dead returned to earth.

Who knew?! When I was growing up, I thought Halloween was just about the candy!

Peace to all souls,
