Fall is perhaps one of the best times of year to golf. This has held true for most of the province into October. Sunny days with moderate rain helped to extend the golf season in most parts of Ontario. Fall like conditions finally arrived the last few days of October with cool temperatures and plenty of rain.

Most of us in BC, save the Lower mainland and the Island, are either wrapping things up and putting our courses to bed or have already done so at this time of year. It’s a good time to reflect on the past season and start thinking about the next. I think most superintendents in BC would consider this past season one of the better ones agronomically, with cooler than average temperatures across most of the province.

Updated Criteria for the Master Superintendent Designation
During their Fall Meetings, the Board of Directors approved the recommendation by the Professional Development and Accreditation Committee to alter the Master Superintendent exam criteria. The changes were proposed by the committee after feedback received from numerous program participants. It was felt that the current exam needed to be revamped in order to allow for more participation in the program and to come in line with the current trends of professional designation programs. The 6-hour time requirement to write the Master Superintendent exam was too large of a time commitment for many and hindered the potential participation in the program. With the new format it will see a change in the time requirement to write the exam.
