Changes to the U.S. Federal Overtime Rules
The Overtime Final Rule does three things of significance to charitable nonprofits.
The U.S. Department of Labor's has updated and released the Federal Overtime Rule which will take effect January 1, 2020. The Rule adjusts the salary level test, part of a three-part test for determining when white-collar employees are exempt or must be paid overtime for working more than 40 hours in a week. Anyone being compensated less than $35,500 per year will have to be paid time-and-a-half overtime regardless of job duties starting in January.

Community Action Announces New Executive Director
Following a rigorous, thorough executive search Community Action's Board of Directors is proud to announce the hiring of the organization's new Executive Director - Kemp Shuey. Kemp has been with Community Action for 4 ½ years, serving as the Director of Resource Development overseeing the private philanthropic and external communication efforts of the organization. He is succeeding Renée Bruce who is retiring after 29 years of service at Community Action, including the last four as Executive Director.

Sue Dixon Named General Director of Portland Opera
Portland Opera's Board of Directors is delighted to announce that Sue Dixon has been named as the company's sixth general director. Dixon joined the company in May 2014 as director of development and was named director of external affairs in 2017, and interim general director in July of 2019. As Portland Opera's director of development, Dixon stewarded major gifts and increased contributed revenue, helping the company achieve balance during a downtrend of earned revenue.

United Way of the Columbia-Willamette Welcomes Cindy Adams as Its New President and CEO
UWCW is pleased to announce that its Board of Directors has unanimously selected Cindy Adams to be the organization's next President and CEO. Cindy's 30 years of experience includes nonprofit leadership as well as being a business executive in both, start-up and Fortune 500 companies. Since 2014 she has been the President and CEO of Aloha United Way in Hawaii where she led the development of collaborative, systems-level solutions to address the community's most deeply entrenched and persistent social challenges. Cindy will assume her new role on December 16, 2019.
