Your Weekly Kingsley Update | October 22nd
An Eventful Week

header_autumn_leaves.jpg
Thank you to everyone who came Wednesday evening to our second PTA meeting of the year, and thank you to AP Michelle Brand for her presentation. One of the things she discussed was the questions asked in situations of conflict to help find a restorative resolution. Click here for the questions. For those unable to attend, you can click here to find at the meeting minutes.

This week brings two important events: parent teacher conferences on Tuesday and Wednesday and Unity Day on Wednesday. Make sure your Comets wear their orange on the 23rd. Friday is a non-attendance day.

Finally, we would like to say a big thank you to Lauren Weiss for coordinating the fall fundraiser. Through catalog and online orders, we were able to meet our fundraising goal. We'll have the final total available at the next PTA meeting. Thank you to everyone who shopped and shared the information with family and friends. Although catalog sales are no longer open, you can shop online for yourself or gifts for others through the end of the year.

October is Bullying Prevention Month

October is Bullying Prevention Month and now is the time to talk about these issues with our children.

Click here to read more about Kingsley's participation in Unity Day, Wednesday October 23rd. Students are encouraged to wear orange in support of standing together against bullying while unifying for kindness, acceptance and inclusion.

Kingsley Book Closet Needs Your Books!

We are looking for book donations to restock the Kingsley Book Closet. All donations are welcome, but chapter books and non-fiction are in high demand.

Coming to school for Conferences? Bring those books in when you come! Please place books in the donation cabinet, just outside the Kingsley library.

No time to drop off? Email Jenn Miller at jennmiller14@yahoo.com and she'll arrange to pick up the books from your home.
Parking 'Directors' Needed for NU Football Games

The next home game is THIS SATURDAY - HOMECOMING, and parking is going to require some extra coordination, so we need all the help we can get! With Paula not being available to coordinate parking on Saturday, we can especially use two experienced parking volunteers to take the lead in her absence. We need volunteers from 9 AM until 11 AM - or earlier if parking sells out. Sign up here to help.

If you can only help out for part of the time, please email Paula Casas at pcasas@me.com to let her know your availability.

Thank you to Paula Casas for her hard work coordinating each game and to our Friday night volunteer crew: Scott Benjaminson, James Davis, Michelle Dahl, Vanessa Dillingham, John and Dana Kim, John and Emily Milman, Dan Mroczek and Sarah Weidaw. Thank you also to our 5th grade volunteers: Marisol Dahl, Margaret Dillingham and Ayla Mroczek.
Annual Halloween Party October 30th!

We are looking forward to a fun-filled evening for our Comets and their families! We will serve pizza and cookies between 6 and 7 PM. Please remember, while costumes are welcome, no masks or weapons allowed.

There are lots of ways to lend a hand, from serving treats to helping with crafts to setting up the spooktacular Haunted Hallway. If you'd like to get involved, please sign up here.

If you can lend your time as an actor in the Haunted Hallway (no experience necessary!), email Stephanie Daugherity at stephanie.daugherity@yahoo.com.

Math Olympiad Club - Sign Up Now

Looking for math enrichment for your motivated 4th or 5th grader? Look no further! The nationally recognized Math Olympiad program is back at Kingsley this year.

Classes will be held on Tuesday mornings 8:00 AM - 8:50 AM, October 29 - mid March. We are requesting a $20 fee per child to cover the costs of materials, due at the first session. PTA scholarships are available. For more information, please click here

Not sure Math Olympiad is right for you? Here is some info that can help you decide! It is a math club that meets weekly to solve challenging math puzzles and problems. We will explore several different strategies like: drawing a picture to help with visualization, finding the pattern in the given information, building a table to organize known data, etc. Weekly practice culminates in a monthly contest overseen by the national organization to help develop student confidence in their problem solving ability. Click here to see sample problems.

Please contact Juchien Hsu at juchienh@yahoo.com with any questions or to register your child in the program.
