Application Period Is Now Open for FuzeHub Commercialization Competition 2018

FuzeHub enters its second year hosting the Commercialization Competition, part of the Jeff Lawrence Innovation Fund. The $350,000 Commercialization Competition is a two-day event in Albany, NY that will feature a pitch competition showcasing innovative early stage companies, panel discussions and networking opportunities. Join us and help grow the entrepreneurial network here in New York State by helping to launch these businesses toward success. Up to seven companies will be awarded $50,000 each to help move their projects forward.


SBU Hacks
September 14-15, 2018

In partnership with the Stony Brook University Library, the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences (CEAS) is excited to host SBU Hacks on September 14th– 15th, 2018.
Approximately 250 students, of all skill levels, will have 24 hours to build a technical solution such as an app, website or hardware hack. Here, students can realize their full potential, while learning what it is like to collaborate and adapt in a high speed environment. The event is open to all Stony Brook undergrads and graduate students as well as students from other institutions.

COMMERCIALIZATION BOOTCAMP- Syracuse

Concept to Commercialization Boot Camp - now in its 2nd year - will be held September 13-14 (Workshop I) and and October 18-19 (Workshop II).

Blockchain Investments in the First Half of 2018 Surpassed Total in 2017 – KPMG Report

KPMG, one of the ‘Big Four’ auditing and consulting firms, on Tuesday, released a study of Blockchain Investments in 2017 and the first half of 2018. The analysis was part of its biannual publication titled “The Pulse of Fintech”.


Bob Bownes co-Founder of the Tech Valley Center of Gravity is retiring.

After helping to bring Tech Valley Center of Gravity into this world and co-parenting it through its first five years,  Co-Founder and Long-Time Vice President Bob Bownes  has been given back his life -- well, at least some of his "free" time. Bob has retired from the Tech Valley Center of Gravity leadership team. S TEAMGARDEN Incubator Breaks Ground on Central Avenue in Albany

After three years in the works, the conversion of a vacant school building on Central Avenue into a business incubator is moving forward.

The State has announced an award of $434,000 to complete the conversion of a vacant building in Downtown Cortland into the Cortland Business Innovation Center, which will serve as downtown's hub for commerce and culture and a resource for aspiring entrepreneurs. The Innovation Center will provide retail incubation for four businesses on the first floor, eight co-working and startup offices on the second floor, and space for one entrepreneur in residence on the third floor. Funds will be used for completion of interior build-out of the first and second floors, as well as facade improvements. ($484,000)

Stony Brook wins $22M to fund energy research

Stony Brook University researchers have been approved for nearly $22 million from the U.S. Department of Energy to develop and expand Energy Frontier Research Centers. The grants, designed to accelerate scientific breakthroughs needed to strengthen U.S. economic leadership and energy security, go to one existing and one new center. The Center for Mesoscale Transport Properties or m2M, led by Esther Takeuchi, will receive a four-year $12 million grant.
