Dear  Saint Rose Families,

The start of school is just around the corner.  Our teachers spent today preparing for the new year.  Our faculty gathered for Mass and then met throughout the day.  Classrooms are being set up, bulletin boards are going up, books are out, and we are ready!  2018/19 is going to be a special year at Saint Rose!
You will notice some changes when you arrive.  Sr. Kathleen or another faculty member will greet all visitors that enter our main entrance at Door A.  This is part of our new safety plan. All electronic door locks have been reconfigured to work with push releases instead of motion detector releases to maintain security throughout the day.  Door A will have someone stationed during the day. Visitors must ring the bell to be buzzed in. Most visitors can be helped right at Door A and will not need to go any further into the building. This is where you can drop off lunches, books, etc.  Visitors that need to go further into the building will sign in and then be buzzed into the school's office or to the gym to get to the other areas of the school.  There will be no access beyond Door A unless someone signs in, gets a visitors badge and is buzzed in.  Parents and visitors are to only enter the building through Door A.  Visitors and parents are not to enter the building through any other entrance during the day.
Stationing a faculty member at Door A is a temporary plan. Our original plan called for a new door to be installed to access the office. Studying this option revealed some external factors that we need to address with the diocese and the city before moving forward.  We internally put the external door on hold knowing that the timeline would not allow to have it in place for the start of school.
I believe that these changes will provide a maximum level of security for our school population.  Thank you for your interest and support of this effort.

I am looking forward to seeing all of the students next week.  They are the heart of our community.

Sincerely,
Bryon Borgelt

My name is Gabriella Ravas, and I am a Senior Girl Scout at Saint Rose Church as well as a 2017 graduate of Saint Rose School and a sophomore at Notre Dame Academy. The highest achievement in Girl Scouting is the Gold Award, the equivalent of the Eagle Scout Award. My Gold Award project is for The Nest, a nonprofit organization located in Bowling Green, Ohio.

The Nest  Bowling Green provides for the student "in a crisis pregnancy by giving support and help to complete their educational goals". Their "mission is to deliver free, high quality, early childhood learning opportunities and Christ-centered care for children while parents are attending classes. They are supporting the parents' overall success with an on-site study room, weekly Gospel-centered parenting classes, one-on-one mentors, tutoring and peace of mind knowing their children are receiving excellent care and education alongside them".

My Gold Award project is to create a sustainable parent/child reading program as part of the parent education program at The Nest
. My project includes building a library of books (and book cases), implementing a book lending program, all of which sustains a commitment of parent/child bonding centered on time shared reading together.   ** I invite you to please donate new and gently-used children's books (faith-based and traditional) for age infant through 5-years. A large bin will be by the school office to place donated books for  The Nest. Thank you for your help!

Statistics show that 60% of teen moms fail to graduate from high school and fewer than 2% complete college by age 30.
The Nest  "enables young parents to live out their dreams and calling as a strong family unit, empowering them to take flight and soar!"
