Dear Alumnus,
One thing that really brings me joy is meeting all of you and the excitement you have for seeing each other. This year we had several events where alumni had the opportunity to see classmates that they have not seen in years. The common bond of being a Concordian never changes and it is our uncommonness that brings us together and keeps us connected. Our academic theme for this year, "Love: Unconquered & Uncommon," carries throughout our lives as we can connect with each other, whether it is another alumnus, student, parent, or friend-in-need. Alumnus Mike Patch captured what it means to be a Concordian in the last article of this newsletter.

CUW Announces New Education Doctorate Program
This fall, Concordia University Wisconsin will launch its first education doctorate degree, a one-of-a-kind program designed for leaders, innovators, and "doers" in an array of professional vocations.
The university recently received the final requisite accreditation approval for the Doctorate of Education of Leadership in Innovation and Continuous Improvement (EdD LICI).
The 60-credit, three-year program is an online degree with two residency requirements. It comprises three core areas: leadership, research, and improvement science and innovation. Read more here.

Women's Leadership Institute National Conference Addresses Vocation, Conflict

Designed for both male and female Christian professionals and college students,
Pressure Points will tackle topics where workplace expectations and responsibilities can create pressure points. Experienced speakers, including alumni, Kris Best and Celeste Cuffie, share their personal journeys of being a Christian professional in corporate and public life and share tips for navigating the grey areas when Christian values and workplace expectations don't always reconcile. African American Students get a Taste of College
About 140 young men recently took part in the fourth annual African American Male Initiative (AAMI) Summer Institute at CUW. Teens from 26 school districts throughout the state were selected to stay overnight on campus to engage in learning and personal growth activities over the course of four days. The intent is to expose them to positive African American role models and peers, and encourage them in their pursuit of higher education. Read more

This was the inaugural year for the African American Female Initiative (AAFI) on campus. About 55 girls from more than two dozen schools in the Greater Milwaukee a
rea stayed overnight in residence halls and engaged in goal-setting, team building, and college and career readiness exercises. Read more about their experience here.

CUW Has New Program Director in Business
Concordia University Wisconsin welcomes Dr. Brian Curry as the new MBA program director within the Batterman School of Business.
In his position, Curry will oversee the entirety of the university's MBA operations, including online, international, at centers, and at both campuses in Wisconsin and Ann Arbor. He succeeds Dr. Carrie Buri, who has retired after 16 years with the university.

You Are Invited to Become a Member of the Concordia Civic Chorale 
CUW alumni and community singers from throughout the area are invited to join the Concordia Civic Chorale. Singers in all voice parts are needed and welcome. There is no audition to participate. Music selections include classical choral masterworks, traditional and contemporary favorites, lighter inspirational works, as well as collaborations with other musicians and ensembles. Rehearsals are held on most Mondays beginning Sept. 10, 7 to 9 p.m. in the Choir Room (Rincker 106) at Concordia. Concordia Offers New 'Pathway'
for Classically Inclined Learners
Concordia University Wisconsin will launch this fall the Great Texts Pathway (GTP), a new program that puts primary texts and thought-provoking conversation first. It is geared toward undergraduate students and consists of courses from diverse disciplines that are united by the emphasis on close reading and vigorous discussion of primary texts. The pathway is open to students from any discipline. Those who complete 21 credits of GTP-designated courses and apply for admission to the pathway will receive a certificate of completion and a GTP designation on their transcript. CUW Seeks Comments for Evaluation by Accrediting Agency
Concordia seeks comments from the public about the university in preparation for its periodic evaluation by its regional accrediting agency. The university will host a visit on
March 25-26, 2019, from a team of peer reviewers representing the Higher Learning Commission. The team will review the institution's ongoing ability to meet HLC's Criteria for Accreditation. CUW is currently accredited with the HLC. Comments must be in writing and must address substantive matters related to the quality of the institution or its academic programs.
