NORTHWESTERN MEMORIAL RANKED BEST HOSPITAL IN ILLINOIS
For the seventh year in a row, Northwestern Memorial Hospital (Julie Creamer) has been named the best in the state by U.S. News & World Report.  Northwestern was also the only Illinois hospital to crack the top 20 in the country, settling into the No. 13 spot for the second year in a row.

Rush University Medical Center  (Cynthia Barginere) ranked second in the state, the  University of Chicago Medical Center  (Sharon O'Keefeand Advocate Christ Medical Center (Gail D. Hasbrouck) in Oak Lawn tied for fourth.
 
The Shirley Ryan AbilityLab ( Joanne C. Smith ) in Chicago also received top honors, ranked as the No. 1 hospital for rehabilitation in the country for the 28th year. Read more...
SYLVIA PUENTE AND LISA MADIGAN AMONG OFFICIALS ENSURING CENSUS ACCURATELY COUNTS IMMIGRANTS
Sylvia Puente, Executive Director of the Latino Policy Forum, was quoted in a Chicago Tribune article about Aurora officials that are counting on help to ensure the next census accurately counts immigrants.  "The Latino population is driving Illinois growth, it is imperative we get an accurate account or the state is in danger of losing representation in Congress," said Sylvia Puente.
 
Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan was also mentioned in the article, as she is among those in a coalition of 18 states, the District of Columbia, nine cities, four counties, and the U.S. Conference of Mayors, that have filed a lawsuit to block a citizenship question from being included with the 2020 U.S. Census.

KENDALL COLLEGE'S CULINARY HOSPITALITY PROGRAMS ACQUIRED BY NATIONAL LOUIS UNIVERSITY
National Louis University ( Nivine Megahed) recently closed on its acquisition of Kendall College's acclaimed culinary and hospitality programs, a deal that also transfers Kendall's entire student body to National Louis.  National Louis owns five floors in the 107-year-old, Daniel Burnham-designed Peoples Gas Building at 122 S. Michigan Ave. The school is hoping to add a sixth floor for the Kendall programs.

"We've been doing a lot of careful planning around what we need to build," Nivine Megahed said. "We are essentially constructing kitchens, a dining room, cafeteria, classrooms, a wine room - a full floor that has all the program requirements for culinary and hospitality." Read more...

LAURA WASHINGTON NAMED TO CHICAGO WOMEN'S JOURNALISM HALL OF FAME
Laura Washington, columnist for the Sun-Times, political analyst for ABC 7, is among five women who have been named the first honorees in the new Chicago Women's Journalism Hall of Fame. All five were inducted Wednesday, August 15 by the Association for Women Journalists Chicago, founder of the online tribute to "individuals who have made outstanding career contributions to Chicago journalism in areas which uplift and support women." LEAP PARTNERING WITH DONORSCHOOSE.ORG TO LAUNCH CONTEST
LEAP Innovations (Phyllis Lockett) is partnering this month with DonorsChoose.org to launch a  contest  that will allow educators to propose personalized learning projects on the DonorsChoose crowdfunding platform. The winning projects, which will be funded up to $2,500, will be announced by DonorsChoose CEO Charles Best on August 28 in Chicago, at the  LEAP Summit . Educators have until Friday, August 17 to enter their projects on DonorsChoose.org.
