Natural Ethiopia East Harrar Nafisifi
I didn't quite get this email written and sent yesterday.  I had a ballet recital to help with, and Trace took Jack to his Tournament of Champions baseball game.  This has been a week of baseball and ballet for our family.  But even with all the activities, we have enjoyed a slower pace.  I've been leaving in the morning while the kids are still sleeping.  I get up early and let the geese, ducks, and chickens out, and the kids take care of them later in the day.  We're taking the farm life at a slow pace.  The ducks and chicks are finally old enough to free roam during the day, and they are about the cutest ever wandering around the yard.

Getting ready for ballet
We have a new coffee for you this week that we're excited about.  This is reminiscent of eastern Ethiopian coffees of old.  Our broker, Royal Coffee, was the sole importer of "Harar Horse," for many years.  The Harar Horse brand was the product of Mohamed Abdullahi Ogsadey, a Somali king.  On the bag their brand was an image of a horse surrounded by a M A O.  You can read the post here with a picture of the brand and a description of the coffee.  And more importantly, you can read about the brand and how it is manifesting itself today.

In the cup you taste that this is a natural process coffee.  That means that the coffee is dried with the fruit still attached.  This care is taken by Rashid Abdullahi, the nephew of Mr. Ogsadey, who under the auspices of the Nafisifi project is drying the beans on raised beds.  The beans themselves are indigenous cultivars, native to Ethiopia.  When you open the bag of green coffee, you immediately smell the blueberry tones, which also come through in the cup.  If you don't know, most green coffee has very little scent, so this is a special exception.

It's fun to have unique coffees to offer you two weeks in a row.  You can try a cup of this one on us with the code deer apples.  I'm sitting outside finishing this email while a doe eats from one of our apple trees.  The butterflies are landing on the Sweet Williams, and the snap dragons are bobbing their heads in the breeze.  This morning I started the day with this coffee: it's a beautiful cup, with great fruit flavors.  I hope you all enjoy your weekend as much as I'm loving my moment in the yard finishing this newsletter.  It's lovely out here.  Cheers!
