Make a Difference in the
Financial Picture of CUC!

Are You Required to Take an RMD from your IRA?
Calling all those who must make minimum withdrawals from retirement accounts!  Why not have some or all of those RMD's sent directly to CUC?  Whatever the amount is, it will be counted as part of the required minimum but it will not show up on your 1099R as taxable. This is an excellent way to make sure your contribution is still deductible!  Please consider donating a portion of your RMD as a way to support the ministry of Columbine United Church.  Please contact Lindsey Stevenson at the church office for more details.

King Soopers Cards
You can donate to CUC simply by purchasing a King Soopers card at the Welcome Spot. Each time you reload the card at the store when buying your groceries,
CUC receives 5%!

Thrivent Financial Choice
CUC is a participating organization in Thrivent Financial's Thrivent Choice® program. Thrivent Choice is a charitable grant program allowing eligible members to recommend where Thrivent Financial distributes part of its charitable outreach grant funds each year. Eligible Thrivent Financial members can direct Thrivent Choice Dollars® to CUC in a particular month. If you have Choice Dollars available to direct, please consider directing them
to CUC. To learn more about Thrivent Choice, visit Thrivent.com/thriventchoice , or call Thrivent at 800-847-4836, and say "Thrivent Choice" when prompted.

Text Your Offering
In less time than it takes to write a check, you can now make your contribution to CUC with a quick text message!  Text "CUC $50" to 73256 to give $50 (for example) to Columbine United Church using your text messaging. You can adjust the dollar amount to whatever amount you would like to give.  Standard text message rates do apply. Thank you for our continued support of CUC! Your time, talent, and resources are helping us to change the world!

Last Summer Youth Group Changed to Sunday August 12th! Due to Back-to-School night at many of our local schools, we have decided to change the Last Summer Youth Group from Wednesday August 15th to Sunday August 12th to better accommodate our teenagers. Usual times: Middle school 4:30-6:30pm and High School 6:30-8:30pm. Middle school will be celebrating our 8th graders continuation into high school, so students please dress appropriately for a nice dinner (not prom formal). See you all Sunday!

MORE HELP WANTED - we are looking for Mentor Moms to join us at MOPS and walk alongside our young moms as we work through our theme of Finding Your Fire this year!  We are looking for mothers who have grown kids and can give us your "been there, done that" perspective.  Commitment is the 2 nd and 4 th Thursdays of the month from 9:30 - 11:30 am.  You will be assigned to a small group of moms and will help shepherd us all with your wisdom.  Mentor Moms are an integral part of the MOPS program and we need many of you!  Email Dani Way at  dani@columbinechurch.org to learn more.

Security  Following the Council's direction we have a security team in place comprised of several members of the congregation. They've been studying the security needs of the building during worship and mid week activities. Thanks to Tag Worley, security cameras have been installed in strategic areas. On Sunday mornings members of the team are in the Narthex and sanctuary monitoring the needs of the attendees, everything from health concerns to people needing assistance. The committee is looking for more members to join in this ministry. It is our desire to create a safe and secure environment for every member of the congregation. Please contact Steve Poos-Benson with your thoughts and ideas.

JOYS:

From Josie Hamlen
I don't know where to start. To say "thank you" seems trite and inadequate. But how else can one show their appreciation for all the cards, calls, hugs, and well wishes? Not to mention the gifts. The gifts. Wow. The gifts. All I can say is your generosity absolutely blew me away. I feel so rich, but not just from the cash, but all the love. Honestly, everybody thanked me for what I did for CUC, but you all did so much more for me. Really. I've loved every minute of the last ten years and will never, ever forget any of you. And I hope to see some of you in Cornville. All are welcome.   Again, thank you a million times over for everything.
Love, Josie.

146 photo opportunities have been filled for CUC folks for the new Pictorial Directory. There are still several openings left so if you haven't made your appointment, please go to the CUC website, click on resource tab, then the Lifetouch tab to get your timeslot. Remember, these directories can be so helpful to new members as well as more seasoned members, as we try to make better connections with our fellow CUCers.

It's always a joy to have time in the summer to take things more slowly, spend more time outside, and enjoy all the beauty that is ours here in Colorado!
