Monday morning we begin the second nine-week quarter of the
2019-2020 school year. This is a significant event as for those of our Knights that are achieving in the classrooms and are already on a path to success, they have one quarter behind them with momentum. However, for those Knights that are not quite yet where they could be, Monday represents a chance to start anew. For these students I strongly urge them to start taking advantage of our after-school tutoring, the Wednesday enrichment school program, or our Saturday enrichment program this week. The time is now in that so much of the educational process is cumulative. We don't want any student to fall further behind as
all students will have to sit for the FLDOE state assessments next spring. In many ways, this second nine-week quarter is the most important one of the four. So, if you have a student that needs some extra help,
please encourage them to get involved in one of these free tutoring opportunities right away.
Unity Day, the signature event of National Bullying Prevention Month, has been recognized in the United States since 2011. This year Unity Day is Wednesday, October 23 and I hope all of our Knights will wear
orange to school this coming Wednesday as a message of support.
Finally, good luck to our Knight volleyball teams as on Wednesday they kick off the 2019 volleyball season at home vs. rival Innovation Middle School at 5:00 p.m. (girls play first followed by the boys team around 6:00 p.m.). Please see the special message below by
Coach Vazquez and come on out to cheer on the Knights. A good turnout at home games, especially vs. Innovation, does much to inspire our young student-athletes and their coaches plus the matches can be a lot of fun for the whole family.
I am looking forward to seeing everyone back on campus Monday morning for a successful on-time start to the new quarter.

On Tuesday, October 15th, staff and students celebrated the last day of Hispanic Heritage Month by wearing the traditional attire of their country.
From September 15 to October 15, we celebrated the rich diversity of Hispanic and Latino population of our school. Thanks to all who participated in the Hispanic Heritage Month activities!

Volleyball season opens this Wednesday, October 23 at 5:00 pm.
It is my pleasure to present the 14 players that we have chosen for our Lake Nona Middle School girls volleyball team. These ladies worked hard during 4 days of tryouts, along with 86 other students that also tried out.
We will be practicing Monday through Friday from 7:00am to 9:00am should you want to come and check out our amazing volleyball players as they get ready for what will be a very competitive season. I look forward to seeing everyone next Wednesday, October 23rd for our season opener and first home game against Innovation Middle School (girls play at 5:00pm, followed by the boys at around 6:00pm).

IBD'S 10 SECRETS TO SUCCESS
 Investor's Business Daily, the #2 business paper behind The Wall Street Journal, has spent years analyzing leaders and successful people in all walks of life. Most have 10 traits that, when combined, can turn dreams into reality.
This Monday we start the second nine-week quarter of 2019-2020; possibly the most important quarter of the year in terms of academic momentum. We are running this to help our Knights surge into these next nine weeks starting with #1 at the very top of the list.
1 HOW YOU THINK IS EVERYTHING: Always be positive. Think success, not failure. Beware of a negative environment.
2 DECIDE UPON YOUR TRUE DREAMS AND GOALS: Write down your specific goals and develop a plan to reach them.
3 TAKE ACTION: Goals are nothing without action. Don't be afraid to get started. Just do it.
4 NEVER STOP LEARNING: Go back to school or read books. Get training and acquire skills.
5 BE PERSISTENT AND WORK HARD: Success is a marathon, not a sprint. Never give up.
6 LEARN TO ANALYZE DETAILS: Get all the facts, all the input. Learn from your mistakes.
7 FOCUS YOUR TIME AND MONEY: Don't let other people or things distract you.
8 DON'T BE AFRAID TO INNOVATE; BE DIFFERENT: Following the herd is a sure way to mediocrity.
9 DEAL AND COMMUNICATE WITH PEOPLE EFFECTIVELY: No person is an island. Learn to understand and motivate others.
10 BE HONEST AND DEPENDABLE; TAKE RESPONSIBILITY: Otherwise, Nos. 1-9 won't matter.
