School Supply Drive This Week!
|
|
On Monday, August 6, the very first day of St. Philip’s backpack and school supply drive, the church's front office was already starting to fill up with backpacks, pens, binders, paper, and other school supplies. Thank you to everyone who has contributed so far! The drive continues this week, and you are welcome to drop your items off in the church office or bring them with you to church this Sunday, August 12. Tricounty Family Ministries, which is one of our home missions, will collect the supplies and allow underprivileged children to choose a backpack and then 6-8 grade-appropriate items to go in the backpack. Any item or items you wish to donate will be most appreciated!

Prayers needed for LAMB Board Trip to
Tegucigalpa, Honduras, August 24-28
A message from Susan C. Keller
Please pray for the LAMB Board trip to Honduras August 24-28. We have six St. Philippians on the LAMB Board right now: Joanna Macmurphy, Susan Keller, Elizabeth and Maybank Hagood, and Tammy and Guv Gottshalk, who will be traveling with their daughter, Lauren. There is no more needful time to pray for the country of Honduras. As many of you have seen and heard recently, the gang violence, widespread corruption, and poverty have come together in a terrible perfect storm of misery for the people in this beautiful yet troubled land. Yet we know that where sin abounds, God’s grace abounds all the more. LAMB continues to be a “city on a hill” of the Lord’s redemptive love, hope, and life for all who come to the ministry. To get a good idea about what God is doing through LAMB, see the
six-minute ministry video
on the front page of our website, lambinstitute.org.
Please pray for the Board as we travel, that we will bring blessing and truly come alongside the LAMB family for encouragement, strengthening, and real heart fellowship. It’d be an encouragement to know that you are praying.
Email me at susanckeller@knology.net.
LAMB is a Christ-centered, multifaceted ministry based in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. We seek to share the hope found in Christ Jesus as we care for, educate, protect, and empower those suffering extreme poverty, abuse, and exploitation in Honduras. LAMB was founded in 1999 by lifelong missionary Suzy McCall as a training school for Hondurans called to world mission.

The Hand of the Lord at Work at Camp St. Christopher
by the Rev. Brian K. McGreevy
During the last week of July, I served as Chaplain for the 7th-9th grade session at Camp St. Christopher with 140 campers and some 30 staff. It was a very busy week, with 14 different teaching times, but it was a glorious time where we truly saw the hand of the Lord at work. This can be a difficult age group, but from the very first meeting, the campers were truly engaged, and it was an amazing thing to see them worship with all their hearts. Our theme verse was Romans 15:13, "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope," with teachings focusing on Jesus the Way, the Truth, and the Life, with an overlay about the Incarnation as we celebrated Christmas in July. We witnessed the Holy Spirit pouring out on these campers, with many opening up about pain and brokenness in their lives they had been hiding and inviting Christ's healing presence through prayer.
On Thursday night, the teaching included an invitation to give your life to Christ, and over 20 students did that for the first time that evening, followed by several more the next day. I was able to have multiple deep conversations and prayer times with campers and staff during which the Lord was powerfully present. After the final session on the last night, over 40 kids lingered in the chapel for well over an hour, worshiping and praying for one another and with me and staff members. I am totally humbled and awed to have been able to be present for such a time and to witness this outpouring of the Holy Spirit. I would be very grateful for your prayers that God would nurture and bring to full flower the seeds planted and the work begun during this session. The ministry that occurs in the summer camp at St. Christopher touches the lives of some 1,000 campers every summer, and it is a powerful witness and change agent proclaiming the truth of Jesus Christ and His love.

The Season Ends for the Slayers
The St. Philip's Giant Slayers would've welcomed a win last night, but the pizza and fellowship they had instead certainly hit the spot.
Keep an eye on your inSPIRE for other opportunities to connect and compete as a team with your fellow St. Philippians--or to cheer them on!
