BACK TO SCHOOL

Fall means back to school for students and teachers alike. With more than 25 employee children heading off to school again, Parallel understands the excitement and anticipation that comes with each new year - but our excitement for going back to school begins when all the students are on summer vacation. Over the past decade, Parallel has (and continues) to help dozens of K-12 and post-secondary institutions enhance their security, improve building efficiency and safeguard their data. Over the summer, our teams installed video surveillance systems, access control systems and updated the wiring and cabling in school districts. If you are interested in learning more about Parallel's work within the education sector, please contact  Mark Bonde.

IMPLEMENTING DAS IN HEALTHCARE FACILITIES

In the August issue of Healthcare Facilities Today, Parallel's Matt Schwartz shared advice on how to identify and address DAS requirements in today's hospital environments. According to Schwartz, " we live and work alongside an enormous system of devices that rely on cellular connections. Point-of-sale systems deployed by food vendors, inventory tracking devices used in pharmacies, and shipping/receiving verification systems are all dependent on cellular communications - making it essential to have a comprehensive DAS strategy." In the article, Schwartz outlines how to tie DAS to business' objectives as well as advice on designing a DAS to support differing carriers, varying occupancy loads, any size of building, and different bandwidth requirements.  Read the article here>>
PREDICTING THE EDGE COMPUTING LIFECYCLE

In a recent blog post, Parallel's Director of Data Center Design, Nate Clyde, shared his perspective on what can be learned from the parallel between the lifecycles of edge data centers and production data centers. Clyde proposes that "it's time for our industry to have open, honest conversations that it isn't entirely possible for all business to outsource all of their I.T. assets to colocation or the cloud.  Something needs to remain behind and whatever that is, it still needs to be able to support the production of the business.  The production data center strategic planning study is the solution to ensuring that these 'hold over' data centers get the fair treatment that they deserve."
