Parents and Families of the Mentor Schools,

Our district has used many resources from Common Sense Media to support our commitment to teach students how to thrive in the digital age. This site is also a great place for parents. Check out Common Sense Media's Parent's Page to find reviews on what your kids want to watch, read or play. The site has age-based reviews on movies, TV shows, books, apps and games. Before you head out to the theatre or purchase an app, check out if it is really appropriate for your child!

Tech to Help Support Kids and Families at Home

They say it’s the most wonderful time of the year, but it’s often the busiest, as well. And, if we’re being really honest, sometimes the most stressful. While most of us look forward to the holidays and enjoying time with family and friends, sometimes this season can be tough, especially when kids become overstimulated. Fortunately, there are all sorts of great tech resources to help us avoid meltdowns and to provide relief when they happen. Check out these sites for some valuable tips, tricks, and tools:
Have a tech resource that you love for your family? Let me know about it! I’m always looking for new ways to support parents and kids. In the meantime, happy holidays!

Technology Used to Support Learning
This section of our monthly newsletter highlights the various programs our students can access to support learning. Over the last few months, we have highlighted our Learning Management Systems (SeeSaw, Google Classroom, and Schoology), G-Suite products and programs to support literacy. This month we turn our attention to Math . Check out the following programs used to support mathematical thinking in our district.
iReady
Students in Kindergarten through 5th grade use iReady to practice many mathematical concepts. Students are highly engaged and motivated to learn math topics on a personalized level on this web-based program.
ALEKS
In grades 6-8, our students use ALEKS to support their learning of mathematical concepts. ALEKs can pinpoint what students know, what they don't and most importantly what they are ready to learn next!
MyMathLab
At the high school level, students use MyMathLab to complete homework, take quick assessments and also have access to quick tutorials on many key mathematical concepts.
