Week Three of Freedom School!
Even though the third week of Freedom School was shortened by Independence Day, our scholars stayed busy. Not only did the scholars improve their reading skills with the Integrated Reading Curriculum, but they also had fun with Field Day, on-site activities and as always, Harambee! Keep scrolling for a few highlights and ways to get involved!
Field Day
Level I and II elementary school scholars had a fun day in the sun this year at Field Day. They enjoyed games, relays and races hosted at Providence Day School.
Thank you to our awesome group of volunteers from Husqvarna who made Field Day possible!
Movie Day
Level 3 middle school scholars enjoyed movie day at Myers Park United Methodist Church last Friday. They watched Underwater Dreams in the morning and then had an exciting afternoon activity with a scientist from Discovery Place.
Volunteer Opportunities
Great Day of D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything And Read) is July 18. We are looking for volunteers for every Freedom School site so that all 1,100 scholars will have a reading buddy!

To sign up, visit our VolunteerHub page or email Tommy Hudnall, volunteer coordinator.
Book Fair
We are in need of volunteers who can assist Freedom School scholars at the Scholastic Book Fair. Thanks to a generous donation from American Airlines and an anonymous donor , our scholars will be able to choose books to add to their home library. Volunteers will buddy with scholars and help them choose books. Volunteer opportunities are available on Monday, July 9, Tuesday, July 10 and Friday, July 13. If you can help, click here.
Jubilee!
FSP scholars and guests will celebrate National Summer Learning Day on July 12 at the Freedom School Jubilee! at the Grady Cole Center. We need volunteers from 8am - 10am and 9:30am - 12:30pm. Volunteers will help direct scholars, serve lunch and assist with set-up. If you are available to help, please click here.

We love to have guests at Jubilee! as well. If you'd like to see the magic of all Freedom School sites gathered together during the day, please email Nancy Ralston.
