A Note From Pastor Linda

Acts 13: Being sent out by the Holy Spirit... (nrsv)

John 1: So the WORD became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. (nlt)

Dear Friends in Christ~

Thank you for your unfailing love and faithfulness:
  • Because of you over 75 kids will be carrying backpacks to school.
  • Because of you kids will have crayons and pens and gluesticks and papers and notebooks and more!
  • Because of you, Hosanna is a place where ALL ARE WELCOME HERE!
  • Because of you, Hosanna is a safe place to ask questions. ("got questions" sermon series begins September 9th!)
  • Because of you, lawns get mowed and weeds get pulled and gardens get tended to.
  • Because of you, Jesus is present- living and breathing.

This Summer we have been exploring the Book of Acts- the Acts of Jesus through the POWER of the Holy Spirit. Over and over again in this book we have seen the Holy Spirit working through regular, ordinary, every day people... just like YOU and ME!
  • God was not content just to proclaim his message to us - his "Word"!
  • God wasn't satisfied that prophets could reveal his message to us - his "Word"!
  • God wasn't willing that his message, his "Word," be confined to a book.
  • No, God's ultimate message, his "Word," is Jesus.
  • God's message, God's "Word," is Jesus coming in human flesh to live as one of us to reveal God to us. This incarnation made grace accessible, touchable, and available to human eyes.
  • By the POWER of the Holy Spirit, Jesus began and fulfilled his mission.
  • By the POWER of the Holy Spirit, we are called, gathered and sent to be a people living, loving and serving as Jesus did so that all will know him... To the ends of the earth (Acts 1.8).

As we move into this last month of Summer and prepare to enter Fall your consistent giving- in time talent and treasures- continues to be important. Because of you, to date we have stayed current in all bills, lacking mission support to the St. Paul Area Synod. However, we are entering the month of August with no extra reserves in the General Fund which means that some August bills may need to be put on hold. In fact, General Fund giving is down approximately $15,000 compared to last year at this time.

Will you do me this favor? Check your planned giving to Hosanna- are you on track? As we prepare to enter Fall programming- we cannot do this without YOU. August would be a great month to send a special gift.

Be The CHURCH!!

Where are we Serving: Open Arms of Minnesota, https://www.openarmsmn.org/

What is this Summer Stretch: Special Edition about?
This whole summer for the past 3 years our Jr. High and Sr. High youth have been participating in this amazing opportunity. We think its time to share in the fun and have a SPECIAL EDITION for all of you adults to get a taste.

Summer Stretch is designed to be service oriented and fellowship centered. We spend time with God, one another and our community. Hence, the lunch planned for Midtown Global market- an opportunity to fellowship and be in a different part of your community, experience an array of foods (suggest trying something new!). We then will shift over about 10 min away to Open Arm MN to join in their meal prep. There is a role for everyone of any age (18+ or with an adult if under 18) or ability need.

Open Arms MN is  a nonprofit that cooks and delivers free, nutritious meals to people living with life-threatening illnesses in the Twin Cities.

THANK YOU from Sarah

I want to thank Hosanna Lutheran one more time for volunteering at the shelter during our opening week. I especially appreciate your flexibility and feedback - I loved all the suggestions you made!
14 volunteers from Hosanna gave the gift of  77 hours serving their community.

This verse really says it all:

What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but do not have works? Can faith save you? If a brother or sister is naked and lacks daily food, and one of you says to them, "Go in peace; keep warm and eat your fill," and yet you do not supply their bodily needs, what is the good of that? So faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead (James 2:14-17).

Thank you for embodying Christ during your time volunteering. We couldn't do what we do without you! I hope to see you all again soon as we continue this ministry in Hugo.

Got Questions? Get Answers.
New Fall Sunday Series Starting September 9

Everyone has questions.  Young children ask "why?"  Teenagers ask "why not?"  Adults question "what if?"  Do you have questions about God, Jesus, the Bible?  Do you have questions about life?  Do you have questions for God about life?  Every day, more and more people are going to Siri or Alexa or Google to find answers to their questions about and for God.  I have a better idea:  Come to Hosanna to "get answers."
