Family Prayer

Second Sunday of Lent

Because you trusted me, I will bless you greatly.
  • In the story of the sacrifice of Isaac, the sin of disobedience that brought alienation and death is healed by obedience.
  • The Canaanites believed the first born belonged to God.
  • Abraham's test of faith emphasizes the fact that God demands obedience, not sacrifice.

Reading II : Romans 8:31-34
Who can be against us?
  • The reading from Romans presents a parallel to God's demand on Abraham.
  • God does not demand the sacrifice of Abraham's son as a price of the covenant relationship.
  • God does sacrifice the life of his own Son to preserve the covenant relationship with humankind.

Gospel : Mark 9:2-10
He was transfigured before their eyes!
  • The story of Jesus' transfiguration is full of symbolism.
  • The images of cloud and mountain suggest God's appearance at the covenant-making on Mount Sinai.
  • Moses, the major figure in Exodus and Sinai covenant, represents the law, and Elijah, great ninth-century prophet of Israel, represents the prophets.
  • Jesus is the fulfillment of the law and the prophets.
A Message from Mrs. Laidlaw Otto

Dear SJE Families,

With so much snow on the ground it’s hard to think about spring, much less the upcoming school year. However, we are definitely in the process of planning. This means that we are working on our calendar, budget and class lists.

Re-enrollment paperwork was sent out to families about three weeks ago, and our first Parental Choice enrollment period for the Milwaukee program has come and gone.

If you are a tuition-paying family and you think you might qualify for tuition assistance, I recommend you consider these options.

The first is our own Tuition Angel Fund. This fund was started in 2009 and is supported by our annual fundraiser. Over the past 12 years, we have dispersed more than $175,000 in tuition assistance to our families through the Angel Fund. Completed applications are due in the school office no later than Monday, May 3rd.

The second is the Father Grom Fund. This fund was originally designed to provide assistance to students attending Catholic high school, but has since been adjusted to include our students. In order to apply for this fund, your family must be registered, supporting members of the parish. Completed applications are due in the school office no later than Monday, May 3rd.

The third is the Saint Gerard Fund. This scholarship fund is for eligible students entering grades three through eight. Scholarships are awarded based on student and/or family volunteerism in the school, parish or community, academic achievement or demonstrated academic effort and financial need of the family. Completed applications for the St. Gerard Fund are due in the school office no later than April 16th.

Applications for all three of these scholarships are available on our school website by following the links included below.

We are so blessed by the generosity of our community. This is a true testament to support for our mission to educate our children in a faith-filled environment.

Enrollment Update

All completed re-enrollment paperwork is due into the school office no later than this Friday, February 26th. If you have questions, or need a second copy of enrollment paperwork, please call the office at 414-321-8540.

Hope for those without Homes

Our National Junior Honor Society will be sponsoring a drive to collect supplies to make healthy snack and drink bags for those who are without homes in Milwaukee County. Please see the flyer for more information. Donations will be collected through March 19th.
Late winter updates

Our students love to play in the snow! Please remember that all students should have waterproof mittens (small, knitted stretch gloves become cold and wet almost immediately), snow pants and boots. We DO NOT stock extra socks in our office. If your child loves the snow, please send a pair of dry socks in their backpack. We recommend that, as the spring approaches, all snow clothing comes home and is washed weekly. Snow pants, gloves and hats that are packed away in a snow bag while wet can become very smelly very quickly!
Uniform Updates

Hooded sweatshirts are not a part of our uniform code. Lately we have been noticing many students wearing zip up hoodies to school as part of their uniform. Crew neck sweatshirts with our logo on them, or even plain red or navy crew neck sweatshirts are acceptable. Students wearing hoodies will be asked to remove them at school.
