Call for Presentations for NWiR Day 2020
The third annual NWiR Day will be held February 2, 2020 in Dallas, Texas. To create an energetic and intuitive agenda that is responsive to the needs of women in the roofing industry, we are looking for your suggestions and contributions on best practices and important issues to empower women in the roofing industry. NWiR Day is not just another professional development conference; it is a time for women to engage in education, networking, and mentoring for the purpose of growing their careers and strengthening their businesses.
Think about it this way, what do you wish you had known at the beginning or mid-point of your career?
We encourage the submission of general program topics and specific presentation proposals from women in all areas related to the roofing industry. Roofing contractors, building envelope consultants, manufacturers, suppliers, vendors, and service providers are all welcome to submit ideas. In addition, we are looking for live demos and hands on training opportunities from professional trainers and/or field technical staff.
We are still interested in your ideas and speaker suggestions. Please send by October 7th to
[email protected].

Call for NWiR Volunteers
Ellen Thorp, NWiR Executive Director
|
|
NWiR has always been committed to maintaining low overhead and a small staff so that we can allocate our budget towards programs. As part of that commitment, we really depend on members to volunteer for committees and fulfill specific roles that contribute to the operation of the association. Each month we'll take a turn highlighting a different area of the association that needs help in the upcoming year and you'll have the opportunity to throw your hat in the ring for when a specific role becomes available.
For this month, we are focusing on the communications committee.
Almost all of the communications functions of the association are handled by the communications committee. Chaired by Anna Anderson of Art Unlimited, the committee collects information for the newsletter, writes the communications schedule, publishes on a variety of social media platforms, reviews the website user experience, and provides guidance on association marketing. The communications committee is looking for members with some writing experience who could commit to 2 original content short blog posts or articles per month about events, people, or developments in the roofing industry. We don't need professional writers; if you got an A in high school English or creative writing, then this volunteer commitment would be a great fit for you! Reach out to the committee at
[email protected] to express your interest!

September Recap:
NWiR Seattle was given a great hands-on training and product education from an NWIR National Founding Sponsor, KARNAK Corporation, for our September Chapter meeting. Tyson Smith went through several different products and their application processes. We each were given a chance to apply products to mock-up roofs and material. We learned when and how to apply which products and the great advancements that Karnak is making to roof coatings! Thanks to Stephen Weller and Aaron Weller for helping Fields Roof Service, Inc. host! I think we’ve added a few more repair crew members to our companies! Go get ‘em ladies!
|
|
August Recap: The Seattle Chapter had Tracey Prociw of the Roofing Contractors Association of Washington gave a great talk on Personal Branding. Tracey previously worked at a publishing company and owned her own roofing company with her husband.
Tracey then explained that a brand has something to do with how you perceive things. Everything that we purchase begins with personal service or a relationship. Creating a brand for yourself doesn’t mean you want to be popular; it is your way of being authentic and your reputation needs to be part of your personal brand. As women in this industry, we must work to be a cut above everyone else and Tracey talked about steps to creating that personal brand and the upsides of doing so. A personal brand is a lifelong project that is so important to have and continue to cultivate. If used correctly you could lead more, win more earn more and ultimately be more!

School Supply Drive: All kids deserve the opportunity to succeed in school! Many families living at Mercy Housing do not have the resources to meet these needs and as back to school time approaches, our NWIR Seattle Chapter has partnered up with Chinook Roofing, Mercy Housing, and Century Communities.
Chinook Roofing headed up the collection site for gathering backpacks and necessary school supplies. We wanted to say thank you again to all those that came together to help these kids start the school year off right!
