EMS ISD eNews
Back-to-School 2018-19 Special Edition
District Highlights

Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year! Our district and campus leaders have been working throughout the summer to train teachers and support staff, and we are excited to share that learning with our students.

Included in this special back-to-school edition of EMS ISD eNews you will find important dates and information to help you connect with your child's school and prepare for the first day of classes. We encourage you to take a few moments to review back-to-school details and mark your calendar with key dates.

It's going to be a great year in Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD and we are excited to welcome your child to school on Monday, August 20!

The deadline to complete online registration for the 2018-2019 school year is fast approaching! Visit our back-to-school tools  website here for more information. All students, including students who attended an EMS ISD school last year, need to have registration completed in order to pick up their schedules (middle and high) or be included on a class list (elementary).

Please take a moment to complete registration by  Monday, August 13 Schedules and classes are being formed now! Students who do not have completed registration forms on file by August 13 may have less chance of receiving their preferred courses, electives, or class placements.

The online process takes about 10 minutes per child to complete. Anyone who is unable to access the online system should contact their child's campus to discuss options for registration.

Thank you for taking a moment to complete registration for your EMS ISD student!

Immunization Requirements

Click here  to view the  2018-2019 Texas Minimum State Vaccine Requirements for Students Grades K-12.

Attention parents: Under state requirements, the district must have updated shot records on file before Monday, August 20.

State law prohibits the district from allowing students to attend any classes without updated immunization records or a notarized opt-out affidavit from the state. Students without an acceptable document will have to be sent home until this requirement is fulfilled.

For the convenience of our families, the district has scheduled several immunization clinics available during the month of August. Please click here for a  complete list of clinics. You may attend any of these clinics regardless of what school your child attends.

Transportation

Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD offers bus service through GoldStar Transit for eligible students residing in the district. If your student(s) rode the bus last year, there is no need to register this year. If you have a new bus rider, please register your student directly with GoldStar. To register your student(s) for transportation and to see which bus he or she will ride this year, please click here

If you need information concerning bus routes, schedules, or if you have other concerns, you may contact GoldStar directly at 817.306.0684.

Start times at EMS ISD elementary and middle school campuses will shift by 5 minutes beginning with the 2018-19 school year. The added 5 minutes will allow for increased instructional time as well as bank additional days within the school calendar in case of inclement weather or other emergencies that would require the cancellation of schools.

These adjustments will embed three days into the school calendar for these campuses that would not have to be made up in the event of an unanticipated school day closing.

High school campuses already have enough days built into the current bell schedule and no changes are planned for 2018-19.

For elementary and middle school campuses, bus run times and teacher start/end times will remain the same as the 2017-2018 school year.

Breakfast in a Bag Option for Elementary

"Breakfast in a Bag" will be available at all elementary school campuses for students arriving in the last few minutes before the school day begins.

All EMS ISD schools currently offer breakfast options for students. With elementary campuses starting 5 minutes earlier, this grab-and-go option helps ensure that all students have the opportunity to eat a healthy breakfast before classes begin.

Regular breakfast offerings at the middle schools will continue to be offered. High school start times and breakfast offerings are not changing for 2018-19.

After-School Program

EMS ISD elementary campuses offer after-school programs through a partnership with the Northwest YMCA. Learn more about the program by contacting the YMCA at 817-237-7237.

Say cheese on the first day!

To celebrate the start of a new school year, we're asking parents and guardians to visit the district's Facebook page on Monday, August 20, for a post requesting they comment with their favorite  back to school photo.  All photos submitted in the post's comments give the district permission to use them in district publicity.

Make sure to like the Facebook page while you're there to keep up with district news, and check out our Twitter page as well! We can't wait to see those smiling faces!  #emsproud
