I am without a car for a couple weeks. That ongoing issue with the transmission I rambled about a few weeks back? This is the actual last, best effort to fix it. Long story short, the second new transmission is out and shipped off to a specialist to repair it. Crossing fingers they can, in fact fix it! Hopefully, the transmission will be reinstalled in perfect working order next week. What I'm reflecting on today is what it means to be without a car! It's a multi-faceted reflection.

We are happy to announce that members of the Georgia Youth Symphony Orchestra will be joining us as our musical guest artists for the 9:15 am and 11:15 am services, in the historic church, this coming Sunday. Esther Hollingsworth, Isabella Antah and Jason Cherne will provide special music throughout the Liturgy.

During a sunny break, between much-needed rain showers on Sunday afternoon, October 6, the annual Christ Church Blessing of the Animals took place. From everywhere they gathered, critters of all kinds and the people who love them. After prayers and a short, but poignant liturgy, all creatures great and small received an individual prayer and blessing. The Men's Discussion Group gathers on Wednesday mornings at 10:30 am in the Youth Room in the Parish House. They are currently discussing  Sudden Spring by Rick Van Noy.  "In Sudden Spring, the author provides a gripping account of the threat that climate change already poses to the American South. But this a tale of hope as well. On Tuesday, October 15, at 10:30 am in the Parish House, the Susanna Wesley Guild will welcome Beth VanDerbeck, CEO of Morningstar Children and Family Services. She will relate recent events on campus where transformative teaching and healing are the goals of serving the 55 resident youths with developmental challenges and mental health issues. Cursillo is a Spanish word which means "a short course in Christianity." Twice each year, the Diocese of Georgia holds a Cursillo at Honey Creek. Beginning on Thursday evening, October 17, 2019, you can experience a weekend of resting in God's reassuring love and peace which passes all understanding. You will hear talks from clergy and lay people in the diocese, attend services in the beautiful chapel at Honey Creek, and enjoy fellowship and meaningful conversations with other participants throughout the diocese. The Christ Church Backpack Buddy program is feeding 500+ students this school year and we need all the help we can get on packing days! Please join us on the line on  October 30, at 10:00 am, in the Parish Hall and help us get all the bags packed!

The mission committee has become aware of a great need for sweatshirts and light jackets for the students of Burroughs Molette Elementary School. If you would like to help these children stay warm this winter, we are collecting these items to help them feel comfortable and ready to learn. The sizes needed range from child small (5/6) to child extra large (14/16). Please bring new or slightly used items to the church office by Monday, October 14.
