API Gift Card Winner Uses Prize to Outfit Scout Trip
"I just wanted to drop a note of thanks for the $500 gift card that your businesses donated--and I fortunately won--at the API golf tournament. I thought of many ways that I could have used it for some extravagant item for myself, but instead used it to help outfit a group of scouts for summer camp at Camp Hinckley located in Evanston, Utah in the Uintah Mountains. We took 49 boys ages between 11-18 with the help of 16 adult leaders. I used the gift card from Sportsman Warehouse to purchase fishing equipment, boots for one young man that did not have any, and other camp items such as propane bottles, lanterns, etc. to make the trip possible. We took some of the boys on a three-day backcountry pack trip where we hiked to some very remote lakes and caught a unique type of trout called a "tiger trout" that doesn't exist in many places outside of the remote Uintah Wilderness lakes and saw an amazing 200-foot waterfall!
Walsh Engineering donated fuel for the trip up and back to compliment what you so generously have given to help make this trip possible.

Community Concert Series at Rochester House in full swing
Stop by the Rochester House in Durango each Wednesday from 5:00-7:00 p.m. through August 29 for a lovely evening in the Secret Garden. Each night features a different local band and benefits a different area non-profit group. Treats are available for purchase along with a cash bar.

Can you dig it? FCCB-Sponsored Money Hunt at the Montezuma County Fair
FCCB staff helped several age groups of young investors search for coins at this popular FCCB-sponsored event at the county fair. FCCB also purchased livestock in support of young farmers and ranchers.

Aztec National Night Out
FCCB's friendly Aztec staff joined the community for a night out at Minium Park sponsored by the City of Aztec and Aztec Police Department. Friends and neighbors gathered for a fun-filled evening and to watch officers and kids of all ages test their doughnut-eating skills! Over 1,000 pairs of FCCB sunglasses were distributed too!

| Insight: 7 tips to choosing the right financial caregiver |
 According to the National Center on Elder Abuse, almost 90 percent of the financial abuse committed against older Americans occurs at the hands of someone they know and trust. Choose the right financial caregiver to prevent elder financial abuse. Consider these seven tips:
- Delegate someone you trust to make financial decisions. If you are unable to facilitate financial transactions, carefully choose a trustworthy person to act as your agent in all financial matters.
- Know who is in your home. Conduct a thorough background check on all individuals you hire for personal care or home care services. Check references and credentials before you let them into your personal space.
- Never sign something you don't understand. Consult with a financial advisor or attorney before signing any document that appears suspicious or unclear.
- Understand the terms of assigning a power of attorney. Granting someone POA gives them the authority to act and make decisions on your behalf, including managing and having access to your bank and other financial accounts. Make sure you fully understand the terms and conditions of consenting a legal agent before you do so.
- Always trust your instincts. Exploiters and abusers are very skilled. They can be very charming and forceful in their efforts to exploit you. Don't be fooled - if something doesn't feel right, it may not be.
- Safeguard your personal information. Shred old bills, junk mail, bank statements and other personal documents you no longer need. Leaving unwanted personal documents around the house could lead to the misuse of your information. If you come across keepsake documents opt to store them in a locked cabinet or safe deposit box at the bank.
- Keep personal items out of plain sight. Lock up checkbooks, credit cards, and other monetary instruments to prevent unauthorized use. For more information, visit aba.com/Seniors.
