Schools have concluded another great year of learning and children are dreaming of all the fun they are going to have during the summer. Along with family vacations and other play times, I encourage all parents to make the SummerREAD program at the Findlay-Hancock County Public Library a big part of your child’s summer. This year’s theme is
“A Universe of Stories”
and revolves around space.
Reading during the summer helps your child retain the knowledge learned in the previous school year and helps to prepare them for the next academic year. And the best part is, the kids are having fun while becoming better students. Last summer, 1,264 registered children read 15,938 books during the eight-week program. They were joined by 199 teens who read 1,387 books and 340 adults who read 2,185 books.
SummerREAD is full of prizes, programs, crafts, and BOOKS. Please browse this issue of our newsletter for further information about select SummerREAD events and visit the library website for a complete list of all programs and events for children, teens, and adults. We hope to see a large crowd for SummerREAD Kick-off festivities on June 3rd. Registration and limited SummerRead activities began on May 24th.

Essential Oils for Beginners

Whether you've had a little experience with essential oils already, or you are just getting started, you might be wondering,"What exactly are essential oils?" Understanding what essential oils are, where they come from, and how they are made will help you see why they are useful, and why they have been popular for centuries. Join us, as we learn from Jodi Mishler, a doTerra essential oil educator. Let's start at the beginning and learn what exactly an essential oil is.

June 19 is a day to recognize the freedom of the last enslaved people in America. It was on this day in 1865 that the news of the Emancipation Proclamation, signed in 1863 by Abraham Lincoln, reached the western-most part of the United States, making all people in America free.
In celebration of Juneteenth, several local organizations will be hosting artwork from Mazza Museum’s “Miles of Bravery: The Underground Railroad through Picture Books” exhibit. Each location will have art and books from the collection as well as family-friendly activities.
This event is a self-guided tour through 7 locations throughout Findlay. It is open to the public, family-friendly, and free.

Teddy Bear Space Camp

Bring your teddy for an out-of-this world experience at Teddy Bear Space Camp. Stay and help your teddy as he prepares for his big OVERNIGHT mission. After the briefing, watch as teddy takes off for camp. When he returns, he will have a special book to show off his adventures and maybe even a gift from space. Teddy will be staying overnight for this program and maybe picked up anytime Tuesday, June 25th after 9:30 a.m. Please keep in mind how difficult it is for teddy to be away from home before registering for this program. This event requires registration.
