A Message from our Executive Director
Dear Friends,

These are challenging times and we hope you and your loved ones are well and safe. At HERS we're taking comfort in one another and our work. Serving our patients helps sustain us.

Our hearts are with our medical and public safety personnel, and our hearts are with all who are hurting. Stay strong, stay safe, and remember how powerful kindness can be.

2020 People With Purpose Gala - Canceled

Our gala (rescheduled from May to August) has been canceled due to COVID-19 concerns. We're committed to keeping our communities safe and know this is the right thing to do.

Our gala will return in 2021 and will be better than ever! We'll share more event info in the coming months and look forward to celebrating survivors and honoring our HERS Award Recipients.

THANK YOU, Fremont Bank, Dublin Chevrolet, and Others!

Our gala cancellation created a $100K net fundraising shortfall which we're working hard to fill. We're incredibly grateful to our generous Community Partners for standing with us at this time; many have converted their 2020 gala sponsorships to donations!

A huge THANK YOU to Legacy Sponsor Fremont Bank and Presenting Sponsor Dublin Chevrolet for unhesitatingly donating their sponsorship funds. Likewise, we're grateful to Kaiser Permanente, Haller's Pharmacy, and Berge- Pappas-Smith/Chapel of the Angels for donating their sponsorship funds. We're also happy to share that many guests have donated their ticket and table purchase funds.

#GivingTuesday

Our #GivingTuesdayNow fundraising initiative in early May was also successful. Thanks to our dedicated donors, we're pleased to report that we received over $4,000 in support of our under-served breast cancer patients.
#HERSWalkRun2020
VIRTUAL in 2020!

Our 5k/10k Walk/Run will go on this year -- virtually. Although we won't be together physically, we'll be united in spirit since many of this event's beloved elements will be included: we'll be LIVE on Facebook at 9 am on September 26th for opening remarks, Elaine's Circle and dove release, and an energetic Bollywood warmup.

You can run or walk either Saturday or Sunday, September 26 or 27 and decide WHERE you do it -- just remember to practice safe physical distancing.

NEW this year: prizes for best costumed pet, most funds raised and more.

Registration will be a low $20 per person with 100% of registration fees benefiting our Assistance Programs. Groups of four can register at a dicount -- just $75, and don't let your pet feel left out -- register your dog, cat, or other animal bestie for just $10.

And if you yoga is your thing, thanks to HERS Board Member Anjali Rao we'll have a Zoom yoga option for $20 per person.

You'll have one week to record your Walk/Run time and every registered (human) participant (Walk/Run only) will receive a finisher's medal.

Our next e-newsletter will have full details & info postcards will arrive in mailboxes soon!

The Sewing Bees

The Sewing Bees of Fremont's Christ the King Lutheran Church is a dedicated team of volunteers who have created and donated over 750 reusable cloth masks to local organizations, including HERS! The Sewing Bees are an offshoot of their Social Ministry Team which creates and donated beautiful cloth totes for our friend, Vicki Goss and her ChemoCare Bag Ministry.

We've packaged the Sewing Bees' donated masks in pairs (one to wash, one to wear) for HERS patients who have been very thankful and happy to receive them.

To quote their group leader, Linda Pearson, the Sewing Bees are "a loving support team (where) all are welcome."

If you know how to sew and would like to join the Sewing Bees, a "honey of a group," contact Christ the King Lutheran Church at (510) 797-3724.
