Over the last year, the Covid pandemic has required safety precautions which cancelled public gathering and thereby in person community meetings. During this time, the County’s team has worked on the 2020 LA River Master Plan. The master plan forecasts a 20-25 year implementation period, which would mean significant impacts for the Glendale Narrows, Atwater Village.
The AVNC river committee in reading through the draft had multiple questions on the master plans sections impacting Atwater. Due to the documents size and scale, coupled with the lack of community outreach, we requested that the County provide more information to Atwater Village. We hope to hear more on local maps, projects, improved access points, connectivity, flood mitigation measures, community outreach at sites and more.
This will be the first time we hear about their Atwater Village projects and proposals! Some of our questions focused on the following areas:
- Flood mitigation measures impacting the Glendale narrows
What are the proposed flood risk reduction measures?
Cost/benefits of flood mitigation vs new/proposed project build-out
- Projects in Atwater Village area (mile 30.75-26.5 approximately)
What are the projects in Atwater Village?
What are the proposed outreach efforts to community members at
or next to the sites?
What is an improved access site?
- Timeline: How will the plan unfold
Is there a roll out plan for proposed projects
- Connectivity along the east bank multi-use trail
What are the plans for connections at Colorado Bridge, Los Feliz Blvd, Glendale-Hyperion Bridge and Fletcher Drive for the Atwater Village side of the LA River.
