Walkability & Accessibility Planning Session is June 14th

As members of the Mayor's Pedestrian Advisory Council (MPAC), the Consortium to Lower Obesity in Chicago Children (CLOCC), Active Transportation Alliance, AARP, and Lurie Children's Hospital's Injury Prevention and Research Center will convene a planning session with community-based organizations focused on neighborhood walkability strategies to support Vision Zero Chicago. 

This meeting is open, however, attendees should meet the following criteria:
  • Have an interest in learning about neighborhood walkability strategies and developing the capacity to partner with organizations to conduct walkability initiatives in their communities.
     
  • Be located or working in a high crash area as identified by Vision Zero Chicago . This includes:
     
    • Austin
    • Belmont-Craigin 
    • East Garfield Park
    • Englewood
    • Grand Boulevard
    • Humboldt Park
    • Near West Side
    • North Lawndale
    • Washington Park
    • West Englewood
    • West Garfield Park
    • West Town

Join Our Team: CLOCC Seeking Program Manager

The Consortium to Lower Obesity in Chicago Children (CLOCC) is seeking Program Manager to develop and implement the Consortium's community- and school-based obesity prevention strategies and manage community-based interventions. Strategies and interventions will focus on improving food access and environmental conditions to support healthy eating and physical activity in Chicago institutions and communities. This will be achieved through the management and oversight of CLOCC's team of Community Program Coordinators, effective interaction with the rest of CLOCC's staff, and coordination with partner organizations. In managing these aspects of the CLOCC program, the Program Manager will track progress on deliverables and financial expenditures related to these projects, oversee the work of volunteers and temporary student assistants, represent the program to community partners and other external organizations, collaborate on partner projects, and assist with the development of project proposals and stewardship reports.

FUNDING & RECOGNITION OPPORTUNITIES

  • The Rockefeller Foundation and the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative - with guidance from community leaders across the country - have created the Communities Thrive Challenge, a $10-million funding opportunity open to organizations that are working to expand economic opportunity for low-income and financially insecure people and communities in the United States.  After two rounds of review, including  peer-to-peer  evaluation and review by an  expert panel , as many as 10 organizations will receive a $1 million grant, as well as best-in-class technical assistance and an opportunity to share their stories on a national stage. All 80 applicants who advance to the second round will receive an honorable mention, and 20 will be chosen as finalists. Each finalist that does not become a grantee will receive $5,000 in recognition of their great work. Registration is due by June 12th and the application is due by June 19th.   • The Hearst Health Prize, in partnership with the Jefferson College of Population Health in Philadelphia, is accepting applications for the 2019 Hearst Health Prize. The winner will receive a $100,000 prize, with $25,000 awarded to up to two finalists, in recognition of outstanding achievement in managing or improving population health. The goal is to discover, support, and showcase population health programs that have made a measurable difference. Submissions must be received by August 9, 2018. Click here for details.  
     
  • The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Division of Nutrition, Physical Activity, and Obesity is now accepting applications for the next  Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health (REACH) program cycle. The 5 - year cooperative agreement will "provide funding to communities to improve health, prevent chronic diseases, and reduce health disparities among racial and ethnic populations with the highest risk, or burden, of chronic disease."   • Healthy Eating Research has released its 2018 Call for Proposals featuring two types of awards aimed at providing advocates, decision-makers, and policymakers with evidence to promote the health and well-being of children through nutritious foods and beverages. Concept submissions are due July 18th. Click here for details.
