Organ Pipe Installation
Organ
Our Parsons pipe organ has been serving our community for nine years. In that time, the organ has been heard at worship services and concerts, and has received rave reviews from visiting organists and the public. We are pleased and excited to report that thanks to the generosity of St. George’s parishioners and concert goers, we are beginning the next phase of completing our wonderful instrument.

This week, Parsons Organ Builders has been installing three ranks of pipes, 183 in all. These three ranks are part of the organ’s original design and will allow the organists more choices when playing softly.

On Monday, October 21, Duane Prill, tonal director for Parsons, will be here to tune and voice the entire instrument, accompanied by noted organ scholar and voicer Jonathan Ambrosino. Duane and Jonathan have collaborated on several instruments, including Trinity Episcopal at Copley Square in Boston. The voicing process requires a quiet environment, so during the week of the 21st, the nave will be closed from 7 am – 6:30 pm except for noon worship services.

Thank you for your continued support!

In peace,
John Vreeland
Director of Music Ministries

Spiritual Gifts Workshop
pile_of_presents.jpg
Ever wonder what gifts you have been blessed with for ministry? Maybe you don’t think that you have any gifts – well, you’re wrong. God has given to each of us according to our abilities.

You are invited to discover what your gifts might be at our Spiritual Gifts workshop on Saturday, October 19, 9 am - 2 pm (lunch included) in Sydnor Hall. If interested, contact Bob Miller or call the church office (540.373.4133) by 12 pm on Friday, October 18.

Your Vestry and Clergy Are All In!
Your vestry and clergy at St. George’s are committed to our mission to “restore all people to unity with God and each other in Christ” (Book of Common Prayer, pg. 855) and to welcome everyone regardless of race, nationality, sexual orientation, gender expression, or tradition.

In response to this mission and welcome and how we are called to move more deeply into the ‘Wonder in All’ at St. George’s, each of us has prayerfully discerned how God is calling us into greater generosity. We have faithfully committed to tithe or give proportionally and have already submitted our pledge cards. Our pledges as a group have …

increased by 5.86% percent!

We’re all in! Join us in the ‘Wonder in All’ at St. George’s Episcopal Church. We’d each love to tell you about our journey at St. George’s, but more importantly we’d love to hear about yours!

This Sunday, we lift up to God our financial pledges to support our ministry together in 2020. Cards are available in the pews and narthex. You can also pledge online . Please join us for an informal extended coffee hour at 10 am in Sydnor Hall, a chance to connect with each other and celebrate.

In peace,

Spotlight On: Vestry
The Vestry is our elected lay leadership board. They provide guidance to our ministries and operations. We give thanks for their generous spirits and the bounty of gifts they share with our parish.

This year, we will elect four new members to our Vestry. If you would like to know more about serving, visit our Vestry table during coffee hour. Please also attend an interest meeting in Faulkner Hall tonight at 6 pm or Sunday at 12:30 pm ( RSVP to church office ) or speak to a vestry member or our rector.

Got a Truck?
We occasionally need a truck to help with transporting furniture and other larger items. If you have a truck and would be willing to let us borrow it, please email the office and let us know! When a need arises, we will be in touch. Thank you!

Did you know we have a new boiler that cost $160K? What about a ministry census? How are we doing financially? Where are we seeing growth, and where do we see opportunity?

Spoofer Alert
Occasionally computer scammers target our clergy by creating fake email addresses that look plausible and then sending messages to parishioner emails that are publicly available. If you receive a strange-sounding message from our clergy asking for emergency help, please disregard and contact the church office so we can be aware.

William Prescott Carter Memorial Concert

New in the Pews: E-giving Cards
Many St. Georgians make their offering through electronic bank draft, credit card, text-to-give, etc. For more information about e-giving visit our website. At Sunday services, the collection plate may feel less meaningful if your gift was completed electronically. The physical “offering” of gifts during the liturgy is a sign of our response to God’s grace. We now have re-usable cards in the pews to put in the plate indicating you have made an e-offering. Thanks be to God for all gifts that we share. “All things come of thee O God, and of thine own have we given thee.”

Plant-based Cooking Class
Our Stewardship of the Earth cooking class and plant-based potluck will meet Wednesday, October 23, 5:30 - 7:30 pm in Sydnor Hall. Crystal Anderson, a self-taught chef with southern roots brings us a twist on classic southern flavors while teaching simple techniques to master plant-based versions of your favorite dishes. A vegan potluck follows the class. Bring a plant-based dish to share or make a financial donation to the St. George’s Food Pantry (The Table). This event is in partnership with the Fredericksburg Food Co-op.

Silent Auction Items Needed
The preschool is accepting items for its annual Silent Auction on November 17. Artwork, handmade items, special collectibles, vacation home rentals, and experiences in the area have done well in the past. Donations will be accepted on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings through November 1 in the preschool. Proceeds benefit the scholarship program. Please email sgpreschoolevents@gmail.com or contact Danielle Davis at the preschool for more information.

Scary Music for Organ
