May has been a wet and cool month for Region 10 members, making it difficult for those exhibitors without benefit of indoor arenas.  Even so, we have already had three shows in May and another coming up over Memorial Day.  Earlier in the month, the Sahara Sands show was held in St. Paul, followed the next weekend by the Region 10 Youth Show in Winona. The third show weekend had two one-day shows in Verndale, MN.

The Region 10 Championship Show is set for mid-June, followed by the Region 10 Sport Horse/Dressage/Western Dressage Championships the following weekend. For our Distance riders, the Region 10 Championship rides will again be held with the SE MN Distance Rides. There are also some unrated/open shows as part of the Arabians Unplugged program. See the full calendar on the Region 10 website.

Thanks to each of you who donated your time and effort as a volunteer for the various club and region sponsored events.  We could not do these shows without you!

This is an online program in Google Classroom that consists of study
materials and online quizzes  in which they earn points towards their achievement patch. There are also hands on activities such as educational days, clinics, WDHA general meetings as well as WDHA Youth meetings. The Youth also have an opportunity to develop leadership skills by participating as an officer on the board of the WDHA Youth group.

We are well into horse season in Region XI this year. Several shows have already taken place. Our one drawback was the postponement of the March Twister CTRs. Due to extremely poor weather conditions, the ride had to be postponed for the safety of the horses and riders. The good news is that it is happening this weekend as you will see in the update under approved rides below. We do have several more equine activities coming up in 2019, so best wishes to all in your horse endeavors! We have lots to offer so please plan on joining us here in Region XI and enjoying yourself!

There is more encouraging news about the progress on the coliseum at the IL State Fairgrounds!  One of our own Region XI members was showing at the last couple of shows held on the fairgrounds in Springfield and reported that the noise expected by most people was not bad at all. They also reported that when in the show arena that you couldn't hear anything from the construction outside! Great news!

Check out the photos on Facebook of the Region XI Sport Horse Championship show, especially those posted by Chelsea Wesson, and you will see the amazing progress on the Coliseum!

Please note:  There has been one other significant change in the show schedule! The Region XI  Offsite Trail and Ranch Riding Championship,  which was to be held June 2 needed to be rescheduled. These classes will now be held with the Region XI Championship Show in July in Springfield, IL. Please see below!

Three days of youth clinics with a range of topics from Western Pleasure, English Pleasure, Dressage, hunters, Showmanship, Trail, terminology, saddle fitting and more. An AHA Value show is held the last two days.

It is open to all youth and any breed of horse. Region 12 is proud to have been the creator and continuous sponsor of this outstanding youth program. For more information contact Robert Obermiller, Event Chair at rlobermiller@gmail.com .

Show season is in full swing and the Region 13 Championships are less than a month away! The Hoosier Horse Classic Offsite Sport Horse and Dressage Regional Championships will be at the Hoosier Horse Park in Edinburgh, IN from June 13-16. This will be a great show and a fun way to qualify for Sport Horse Nationals!

--------------------------------------------------------------

The Region 13 Championships will be held June 19-23 at the amazing World Equestrian Center in Wilmington, OH. Fun times will be had, showing our beautiful Arabians with old friends and a lot of new friends too, at this beautiful venue. Remember, golf carts are available for rent by calling Mid Ohio Golf Car at 740-929-4633.  Do us a favor and let us know your stall requirements as soon as possible.

--------------------------------------------------------------

If you want to come to the Region 13 shows but have not qualified, there are still some great shows that can help you accomplish that. A whole lot of people had fun and got qualified at the 63rd Michigan All Arabian Show. There were hunters everywhere, including the Hunt Seat Medal Class with 20 junior riders! So awesome to see.

Coming up May 31 - June 2 is the Half-Arabian Association of Michigan's Show Time Show at Michigan State University, with arena and Sport Horse classes and new this year, ranch riding.

A new show this year, June 7-9, is the Great Lakes AVS show in La Porte, IN. This show should be great fun with arena, Sport Horse, Dressage and the added benefit of a value show. Two other options to qualify in time for the Regional shows are the Eastern Classic show in Hamburg, NY, June 7-9 and the Medallion Show June 8-9 in Wilmington, OH. If you can't make it to any of these shows, you can still qualify at the Region 13 Championships Concurrent A & B pre-show on June 19 at the World Equestrian Center. So, let's get your horses qualified and come join us at these two shows! Check out the Region 13 website for more information .

--------------------------------------------------------------

Two wonderful Arabian events were held in March and April. The Cortese family of Cortese Arabians and David Mikosz hosted "Family Day at the Horse Farm" at their facility in Middleville, MI. A fun day was spent introducing kids and their families to the benefits horses offer children. They hosted a lunch, riding demonstrations and offered the kids a chance to ride and interact with Arabian horses. Thank you Cortese Arabians!

--------------------------------------------------------------

Michigan State University's Horse Teaching and Research program held their annual Spartan Spectacular Horse Auction! Once again this event was a big success, offering MSU bred Arabian horses to the community at auction to help support the program.

A big announcement was made at Michigan State as well. The Michigan State University Pavilion for Agriculture and Livestock education has begun a $3 million capital campaign to fund a 40,000 sq. ft. addition to the complex. The centerpiece will be the construction of an additional covered arena attached to the existing facility. Great news for horse people in Michigan and the Midwest.

The 2019 Empire Spring Show was a GREAT success!
AMAZING judges teamed up with exhibitors, horses, the show staff,  sponsors, Empire board members and family members and volunteers to make  it happen. We had a yummy Friday night "Taste of Empire" event with locally- made wine, cheese, chocolate and a jerky buffet that was a big hit,  and our Saturday night event with Ranch Riding, Reining, Native Costume  and much more!

The Empire Spring Show was widely advertised, free to the public  and delivered on its promise of a spectacular show of incredible Arabian horses,  participating in the many disciplines at which they excel... Halter, Sport Horse,  Dressage, Reining, Hunter over Fences, Western Pleasure, Hunter Pleasure,  Country English Pleasure, Show Hack, Native Costume, Ranch Riding, Trail  and Western Dressage.

This year was the largest Youth participation at our  show and we were so honored to award the first ever: Bob Jenkins Memorial  Sponsorship winners: Madison Green, Madison Clochessy and Sophia Garcia, who  each received a check for $100 for their stall at the Empire Spring Show!
CONGRATULATIONS!

We thank the generous donation from  Cindy High-Fischmann to establish the Bob Jenkins Memorial  Youth Sponsorship program as a way to encourage new youth to show Arabian  horses!

There were many opportunities to meet and greet with our Arabian horses,  along with opportunities to take photos with an Arabian dressed as a unicorn.  Build a Pal was there helping everyone build their own special pal from scratch!  We attempt to reach out in a big way to the general public to share  our love for the amazing Arabian horse. We felt all that we had to offer
drew a good crowd!

It truly takes a village to put on a show like the  Empire Spring Show!  A huge shout out to Scott Thomas Photography from Baldwinsville, NY. H e is responsible for the amazing photos from the show! C heck him out at www.sfthomasphotos.com.

Thank you to one and all, see you next year!

The Region 17 Championship show was held May 2-5 at the Thunderbird Show Park in Langley British Columbia. It was a great event and accolades go to the Show commission and members of the All Arabian Association of BC (AAHABC) for the hard work they put into hosting a wonderful show with great fun activities.

The exemplary judging panel was:

Vicky Humphrey, Jeff Lee and Pam Zimmerman - Main Ring
Linda Dieno, Melonie Kessler - Dressage
Joan Curtin - SH Hunter

Anyone who has been to Thunderbird knows that it is a wonderful facility built for world-class equine event. Competitors were greeted by the ever-smiling Marion Enders in the show office and enjoyed several activities including a progressive barn dinner in which incredible hors d'oeuvres, salads, main courses and desserts were offered to everyone. Oh yes, and some good wine selections as well!

Our official photographer: Ashley Lauren has photos posted of the event. If you want to see the proofs go to  www.ashleylaurenphotos.pixieset.com.

Next year's show moves to Red Deer, Alberta during the last week of June. Here's hoping that you mark your calendar and come participate in this wonderful Regional show.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Vancouver Island Arabian Horse Association (VIAHA): held a very successful show mid April to help those members wanting to qualify for the Regional Show - and everyone who needed to qualify did!

The highlight of the show was the AHA Achievement awards presentation to two long-time and well-known members. Gerald McDonald and Sandra Gilbert- Stockhausen.

TC VICTORIAS SECRET++ was presented with her LEGION OF MERIT. Vicky as she is called at home is a 14-year-old Arabian mare, sired by Matinee Bey out of the Huckleberry Bey daughter Monica Bey. Vicky is bred and owned by Gerald and Kathy McDonald of Twin Cedars Arabians, and ridden exclusively by our president Sandra Gilbert-Stockhausen.  For Vicky's Legion of Merit, she had to earn 75 points, with a minimum of 30 in breeding/in-hand and 30 in performance, and now has "++" added to her name.

Vicky has been shown successfully in Halter, Sport Horse In-Hand and Dressage. At Western Canadian Breeders, she won Reserve Champion in Arabian Mares AOTH and at Regional shows, she has won multiple Top 5s, Reserve Championships and Championships in Sport Horse In-Hand, both Dressage Type and Hunter Type. At the 2018 Sport Horse Nationals, she won a Top Ten for Arabian Mares in-Hand ATH Dressage Type and Hunter Type. Under Saddle, Vicky has been successful in Dressage at Open shows and at Arabian shows, including Regionals
.

SANDRA GILBERT-STOCKHAUSEN was presented with 2 plaques from AHA in recognition of her accomplishments, one for RIDER OF HONOR and one for HORSEMAN OF MERIT.

2019 marks the 60th year that Sandra has been riding horses and she competed in her first horse show on her 7th birthday. Over the years she has owned several horses for trail riding and/or showing. With Surnik, a talented big gray Arabian gelding, Sandra developed a love for Dressage and mastered the divisions of Side Saddle, Native Costume, Hunter over Fences and, of course, Older Than Dirt.

Sandra currently owns TC Sultans Rising Star now competing in Western Dressage and Ranch Riding and she also shows Gerald and Kathy McDonald's mares TC Azleah and TC Victorias Secret++ in Dressage and Sport Horse In-Hand. Gerald and Kathy bred all 3 mares and Sandra has done the majority of their training.

At the 2014 Sport Horse Nationals, Sandra rode TC Azleah to a Top 10 Training Level Dressage. In 2018 she handled TC Victorias Secret++ to two Top 10 honors at Sport Horse Nationals in Sport Horse in Hand ATH Dressage type and ATH Hunter type.

AHAEC ProAm Show is back! June 14th evening is a clinic and show on Saturday, June 15.

Join us for a learning experience with clinician Brooke Fuchs. Great opportunity for those new to the show ring and others who need some assistance! Stay for the show, which will offer AHA classes for qualification and open classes to encourage all Arabian horse owners and exhibitors to compete.

Both events held at Quar-Dream Equine Farm, Mount Forest, Ontario. Special thanks to show sponsors: Dr. Paul Rutherford, John Code and Greg Lymer for their incredible support.

Contact Joshua Schildroth to reserve your spot for the clinic ($30 fee to participate with your horse, or $7 audit fee) and show information. 647-242-4855
