July LSAT Question: Message from CMU Pre-Law Advisor Dr. Joseph Devine
Dear prelaw students and alumni,
I recently posed the following question to the Law School Admission Council about the July 2019 LSAT, which is when the transition to the digital LSAT will occur (1/2 taking it in the old pencil-paper method, and the other ½ on tablets):
"I have had some prelaw advisees planning to take the LSAT in July, who are anxious about not knowing the format they will be using (traditional paper/pencil, or digital/tablet). Will they know in advance which format they will be using? And if so, how far in advance? If it is your plan to NOT inform them in advance, what's the rationale for that?"
HERE is their reply:
"For the July 15, 2019, test administration, some test centers will be administering the pencil-and-paper test, and some will be administering the digital test. The test content will be the same regardless of which method a test taker receives. Test takers will not know in advance which test their center will be using. This is a recognized best practice under educational testing standards for moving to a new testing method.
I am including links below from our website regarding the Digital LSAT, but please let us know if you have any further questions or concerns."

SO: My advice if you are taking the July LSAT is to take steps to familiarize yourself with BOTH formats.
