Get a life: How to manage mental health in law school
The biggest change between a 1L and a 3L is the realization that you're not so special anymore. You apply to law review, moot court, a handful of internships - all of which you may not even get accepted into. The best thing you can to combat a cycle of negativity if it arises is to invest in hobbies that are not, in fact, related to your education. Find meaning outside of the classroom.

Can a simple quiz tell you if law school is a good choice for you?
Probably not.  Nevertheless, the Law school Admission Council has a link called "Discover Law," and offers a short multiple-choice quiz " as an exercise to help you pursue your own research about choosing a law career."  It asks questions about what is on your smartphone, what your t-shirts usually feature, your favorite website, etc. They add the caveat:  "The quiz is not a foolproof diagnostic scientific tool. It's just for fun!"

LSAT/PreLaw

July LSAT Question: Message from CMU Pre-Law Advisor Dr. Joseph Devine

Dear prelaw students and alumni,

I recently posed the following question to the Law School Admission Council about the July 2019 LSAT, which is when the transition to the digital LSAT will occur (1/2 taking it in the old pencil-paper method, and the other ½ on tablets):

"I have had some prelaw advisees planning to take the LSAT in July, who are anxious about not knowing the format they will be using (traditional paper/pencil, or digital/tablet).  Will they know in advance which format they will be using?  And if so, how far in advance? If it is your plan to NOT inform them in advance, what's the rationale for that?"

HERE is their reply:

"For the July 15, 2019, test administration, some test centers will be administering the pencil-and-paper test, and some will be administering the digital test. The test content will be the same regardless of which method a test taker receives. Test takers will not know in advance which test their center will be using. This is a recognized best practice under educational testing standards for moving to a new testing method.

I am including links below from our website regarding the Digital LSAT, but please let us know if you have any further questions or concerns."

SO: My advice if you are taking the July LSAT is to take steps to familiarize yourself with BOTH formats.

CMU Pre-Law Handbook
The Prelaw Handbook has now been incorporated into the CMU Pre-Law Program web site.  This handbook is designed to take a "deeper dive" than our main pre-law web site into matters pertaining to pre-law interests and needs of current students and alumni/ae.  It discusses in much greater detail the relevant information and issues about exploration of law school as a professional school option, preparation for law school, the law school application process, financing law school, and several resources for additional reference.  This handbook is navigable by detailed bookmarks so that you can go straight to those sections that respond most directly to your questions and needs.
