Restoration of Library Hours
Brought to You by the Voters of Tiverton!

Tiverton Public Library is thrilled to announce that, thanks to the voters of Tiverton, the Tiverton Public Library will restore Tuesday morning hours beginning on Tuesday, June 18th, and Union Public Library will restore Saturday hours beginning on Saturday, June 22nd.
 
We are incredibly grateful to those who have continuously supported the mission of Tiverton and Union Public Libraries.
 
Hours will be as follows:
 
Tiverton Public Library - beginning June 18th
Monday - Thursday 10:00am to 8:00pm
Friday 10:00am to 5:00pm
Saturday 10:00am to 4:00pm
 
Union Public Library - beginning June 22nd
Tuesday 10:00am to 5:00pm
Saturday 10:00am to 1:00pm

ADULT EVENTS
Ditch Your Electronic e-Waste with Indie Cycle!
Saturday, June 1st, 10:00am-1:00pm, Library Parking Lot
Safely and securely dispose of all your used, broken, or unwanted electronics at the Tiverton Public Library! Indie Cycle will be parked outside the library on Saturday from 10:00am to 1:00pm to help you responsibly recycle your electronic waste.
 
Items accepted at NO charge: Computers, laptops, monitors, routers, PDAs, cell phones, mice, keyboards, ink-jet printers, toner cartridges, CD/DVD players, radios, televisions, network equipment, wires, stereos, speakers, telephones, cameras, microwaves, small household appliances, and acid lead batteries, including auto/marine and battery back-ups. Anything with a wire!
 
A $10 disposal fee is charged for each laser-jet printer, air conditioner, dehumidifier, and other coolant-containing devices.
 
Not accepted: Light bulbs, single-use batteries, tapes/disks, glass, Styrofoam, broken TV tubes, or any hazardous materials.
 
Indie Cycle, LLC, has a zero landfill policy and does not remarket any hard drives or data storage devices. Visit their website at www.indiecycle.com for more information.
Retro Game Club Lite
Tuesday, June 4th, 6:30pm, Learning Center
Visit the library for a drop-in version of Retro Game Club--Retro Game Club Lite.
 
Over the summer, Retro Game Club will be on a bit of a hiatus to focus on our summer reading programs...but fret not! We'll still have games set up the first Tuesday of each month in the Learning Center. Come play a variety of plug-and-play consoles, or bring your own handheld systems and chat with other gamers.
 
Retro Game Club will return to its full glory in September 2019.
Meditation for Brain Health
Wednesday, June 5th, 6:30-8:00pm, Community Room
Scientists are learning more and more about how meditation benefits one's brain health as well as one's well-being.  Dr. Alan Post, Chiropractic Physician and long-time meditator, will offer an engaging lecture on this fascinating subject. Dr. Post will also share a simple and effective meditation technique which has lasting benefits.
CreaTiv Crafts
Thursday, June 6th, 3:30-4:30pm, Community Room
Join us on the First Thursday of every month for some fun and creativity. This month, give an old, but well-loved t-shirt new life by turning it into a tote bag!

No registration is needed for this craft. Just bring a t-shirt with you!

Cookbook Club
Wednesday, June 12th, 6:00-7:30pm, Hancock Estates, 345 Hancock Street, Tiverton 
This month, we are celebrating our Cookbook Club's 2-Year Anniversary! Please note that we will meet at Hancock Estates. 

Instead of discussing a cookbook, we will bring our own favorite dishes. Please bring a copy of your recipe that night. 

We'll also do a Cookbook Exchange! Bring a cookbook from home that you aren't using anymore, wrap it, and we'll exchange them at the meeting.

Adult Knitting Meet-Up
Tuesday, June 18th, 5:30-8:00pm, Learning Center
A casual meeting for knitters looking to work on their projects with others who enjoy knitting and crocheting. Join us on the Third Tuesday of the month to meet and socialize with other local knitters. Must bring your own projects and supplies.
Make Your Own Astronaut Ice Cream
Tuesday, June 24th, 3:00-6:00pm, Community Room
This all-ages program kicks off the library's Summer Reading programs! Drop in on the hour (3:00, 4:00, or 5:00pm) to make your own bag of Astronaut Ice Cream. 

This is a maker event that involves milk. No dairy substitute will be provided.

Movie Night: The Martian (2015; Rated PG-13; 2h, 24min)
Wednesday, June 26th, 5:30-8:00pm, Community Room
Free movie, popcorn, and drinks at the library on the Fourth Wednesday of every month! 

This month's movie is The Martian (2015; Rated PG-13; 2h, 24min). An astronaut becomes stranded on Mars after his team assumes him dead, and he must rely on his ingenuity to find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive.
Painting Landscapes
Thursday, June 27th, 4:00-6:00pm, Learning Center
In this 2-hour session, local artist John Irwin will take you step by step through the process of starting a landscape painting and deciding when it is finished. All materials will be supplied.

Adult Game Night

Join us for a laid back game night at the library. Play one of our games, ranging from board-building strategy to trivia-style games and more, or bring your own!

Snacks are provided; outside snacks are also welcome.
Local Author Meet & Greet
Saturday, June 29th, 11:00am-2:00pm, Community Room
Interested in meeting a local author? Then here's your chance! Over 40 authors from the Association of Rhode Island Authors (ARIA) will be at the Tiverton Public Library for an Author Meet & Greet on Saturday, June 29th, from 11:00am to 2:00pm. All genres will be represented, from children's books to fantasy, sci-fi, fiction, action and adventure, mystery, thrillers, and more! This event is free and open to the public.
BOOK GROUPS FOR JUNE
YA for Adults Book Club
Tuesday, June 11, 6:00-7:30pm, Learning Center
The YA for Adults Book Club is a book discussion group for adult readers who enjoy reading Young Adult/Teen Fiction. This month, we will be reading Internment by Samira Ahmed.
 
Copies are available for check out at the library. Teens must be at least in high school to attend this book group. Please see Rebecca with any questions.

Copies of the book are available at Tiverton Public Library and in the office at the Senior Center.
Union Library Book Group

In June, the Union Library Book Group is reading The Power of One by Bryce Courtenay. New members are always welcome!
 
Books are available for checkout at the Union Library and the Tiverton Public Library.
You are welcome to join any book group. Stop at the Information Desk for a copy of the book to be discussed. Only the Cookbook Club requires registration.
TEEN EVENTS
Action Packed Movies at the Library
Saturday, June 1st, 12:00-2:30pm, Community Room
Bring your lunch and join us for a dine-in showing of Aquaman projected on the big screen in our Community Room. Free popcorn and candy provided! 

Our Teen Movie showings are part of our Teen Program offerings but are open to all patrons.
Teen Advisory Board
FIRST TUESDAY OF EACH MONTH

Come hang out and discuss titles that you are reading, tell us what you would like to see happen at the library, and eat some snacks! Earn a community service hour for attending! 

Attendance is limited to patrons in Grades 6 through 12.
Retro Game Club Lite

Visit the library for a drop-in version of Retro Game Club--Retro Game Club Lite.

SyncAudiobooks--Free Audiobooks for Teens
Every Thursday from April 25th through August 1st
SYNC is a free summer audiobook program for teens 13+. SYNC is giving away two complete audiobook downloads a week--pairs of high-interest titles, based on weekly themes. SYNC introduces a variety of audiobook experiences to teens to demonstrate that reading can be completed by listening. 

SYNC is sponsored by AudioFile Magazine, and titles are delivered through the OverDrive app. Download the app in advance to whichever device you anticipate listening on so you're ready to go! 

Sign-up to get notifications when the FREE audiobook downloads are available. You can receive alerts by text message, email newsletter, or by visiting www.audiobooksync.com. Titles change every Thursday at 7:00am while the program is running.

The Rainbow Beard Show
Thursday, June 27th, 6:00-7:00pm, Children's Activity Room
Recommended for ages 3+.
Space is limited. Tickets will be distributed on a first come basis a half hour before show time.
Join us at the library for a fun evening with Ricky Rainbow Beard and a live theater production of the "Rainbow Beard Show." The show will feature special guests, a minute-long dance party, and a celebration of authentic feelings.
