Hope has a New Address and a Giant Mosaic!
Art with a Heart is grateful to have played a part (with the help of hundreds of volunteers) in bringing color and joy to the new Ronald McDonald House. In addition to the 200 sq. ft. mosaic, Art with a Heart also designed and facilitated the completion of a painted mural on the exterior of the building and 55 mosaic mirrors for the each of the bathrooms in the new house. This project is a wonderful example of community collaboration at its best!

Muppet Mania
Students in 3rd through 5th grade in Art with a Heart's after-school program at
Cherry Hill Elementary School spent a week learning about and creating
Jim Henson styled hand-rod puppets. Students had a great time customizing their puppet's facial features and clothes. Once complete, the students utilized their unique puppets to dialogue about character traits like respect, responsibility, honesty, trust, fairness, perseverance, self-discipline, courage and citizenship. The puppets were used as part of a final performance on character and values at the culmination of
Elev8 after-school program.

History and Art Connect to Create Japanese Cherry Blossom Lanterns
Art with a Heart students in the 7th grade at
Hazelwood Elementary/Middle School enjoyed learning about the historical significance of cherry blossom trees in Japan and America. Taking what they learned from the history lesson, students began the art making process. Using watercolors, students created the rich sky by alternating blue and violet colors and then used black paint to create tree trunks. Students were excited to blow through straws to make tree branches that mimic the
Japanese sumi-e ink paintings. Adding cherry blossoms or "sakura" with tempera paint was the final step before students folded the paintings to make lanterns. Connecting to world cultures through process driven art making has made a lasting impact on these budding artists.
