Georgia Department of Education Releases District Georgia Milestones Performance
Monroe County students' success on last spring's state tests has moved the Monroe County School District into a "Top Twenty" ranking among all Georgia school districts. National school scoring service Schooldigger.com lists Monroe County Schools 19th among 182 Georgia school systems based on the recently-released test scores.

The Georgia Department of Education this week released school district performance for the 2017-2018 Georgia Milestones assessments. Monroe County Schools is pleased to report that our students continue to perform at a high level in the classroom each day and on the state's yearly content assessments. These assessments are given to students in 24 content areas across grades 3-12 to monitor student mastery of the Georgia Standards of Excellence in the core areas of reading, ELA, math, science, and social studies.

When comparing the state's College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) scores in each tested area, Monroe County students exceeded the state average in all 24 tested areas this past spring. Student scores exceeded the state average more than 10% in 18 of the 24 areas. This is the first year that Monroe County Schools exceeded the state average in every tested area in all tested grades under the new Milestones assessments.

Monroe County Schools led the Middle Georgia Regional Educational Service Agency (MGRESA) school districts in student performance in 19 of 24 tested content areas. MGRESA districts include Bibb, Crawford, Houston, Jasper, Jones, Monroe, Peach, and Twiggs counties. Students in Monroe County continue to show consistent improvement from year to year under the new assessment system.

Dr. Mike Hickman, Superintendent, stated, "the continued improvement seen on the Milestones is a testament to the work our teachers and instructional leaders are doing each day to ensure that curriculum, assessment, and instruction are aligned and monitored at all grade levels. Our teachers' preparation and development of lessons that are engaging, rigorous, and relevant are really paying dividends for our students. We are extremely proud of their work. Our students benefit greatly from this detailed work."

According to Schooldigger.com -- an online site that ranks schools and districts based on state test scores across all grade levels -- Monroe County Schools moved 10 spots higher in the state ranking, up from last year's 29th. Several schools in Monroe County also made significant improvements in these rankings. Samuel Hubbard Elementary improved 199 places in the school rankings, while Mary Persons High School and Monroe County Middle School improved 59 places and 17 places respectively.

The Georgia Department of Education will release official CCRPI scores for schools and districts later this fall.
