Music Mobile™
Barbara Lake

A big thanks to all of you who signed up to volunteer for Music Mobile™. Music Mobile is a heartwarming and rewarding way to fulfill your PSHA music obligation. From early October to late March, PSHA partners with the Pasadena Conservatory of Music (PCM) to introduce the magic of the orchestra to 3rd grade classes, primarily Title 1 schools, in the San Gabriel Valley.

Annually, we aim to reach approximately 30 schools. PCM provides administrative staff, a conductor and all the instruments that they maintain on PSHA’s behalf – brass, percussion, strings, and woodwinds – while two PSHA volunteers assist at two pre-scheduled morning assemblies.

During each one-hour assembly, the program teaches children about symphonic music with an entertaining presentation from the conductor. Then with the help of Showcase members, the students are allowed a hands-on experience with a variety of instruments. And that’s when the fun begins!

Absolutely no previous knowledge of playing a musical instrument is necessary. You learn as you go along. Just bring a sense of humor and patience and sit back and enjoy this magical ride!

Interested? Of course you are! This volunteer opportunity is made for you. Call me or e-mail, or text me or tap me on the shoulder, I’ll give you all the details.

Public Relations / Marketing
Michele Lembo

The Public Relations/Marketing Committee is enthusiastically working on traditional advertising plans and implementing a widespread social media campaign. We are looking to get every Showcase member involved. If you haven’t already, please “like” us on Facebook and follow us on Instagram. If you have experience posting and would like to be part of the social media buzz, we would love for you to join us and reach out to your friends and family through social media. Make sure to beef up your posts too by adding hashtags; #pasadenashowcasehouse and #musicmakesitbetter. Please note that we never post any references to the owner or mention the house address.

Some new media plans are in the works too. Partnering is going to be the key word for the Pasadena Showcase House this year as we look to develop media partnerships in both local media as well as magazines. We are now on board with some of our local media outlets with which we already work closely. Beginning with the Designer Walk Thru and continuing throughout the design house process, we will engage them with tidbits of news and information to build up the excitement for the 2020 Pasadena Showcase House of Design! Let’s sell more tickets!

We are also working on a bright and beautiful two-page spread that will really “Showcase” our fine organization and will “hit the newsstands” before the end of the year!

For Associate Members, rosters will be available at the Halloween Haunt, after that, they will be mailed.

For Active, Business and Provisional Members, rosters will continue to be available for pick-up at the Benefit Committee, Board and General Meetings in November. After that, they will be mailed.

From our first issue of Just in Showcase in the new format we learned that 53.2% were read on desktop computers and 46.8% were read on mobile devices. That does not make it easy to choose a design format - mobile or desktop - when it is so closely split. Take the survey below to let us know which members use which devices.

It is recommended that you log on to the PSHA website before scheduling for staffing begins to insure there are no problems.

Website Liaison
Katherine Watkins

Last year the Website Committee reviewed and discussed other websites for inspiration. One thing that we noticed was how the better ones make it so easy to donate and to be added to the list for announcements and updates. When the new website launches I think it will be quite obvious that we have attempted to replicate what had impressed us in others. Whether it will actually yield substantial donations is the $64,000 question, but it is clear from the added donations made when buying tickets through Admit One Products that if one only has to “click here”, that there are supporters willing to click and donate.

The homepage is being structured to include four separate sections that are meant to change and update frequently to keep the site energized. For lack of a better title we have been referring to it as the latest news section. The Publications Chair will need the assistance of everyone to help keep these fresh and interesting. For the most part she spends her PSHA days alone at a keyboard and misses out on the excitement at the Music Programs or the drama at the House. But we are pleased about this particular bit of architecture because it means the ability to post appealing stories and images without the expense of reconfiguring the whole page each time. Hopefully, this will help to generate buzz and maintain a connection with our followers and supporters. Just don’t be surprised if you find the Publications Chair eavesdropping on your conversations!

Patrons
Beverly Marksbury & Joy Sullivan
Patrons’ invitations have been mailed to our members and friends in our effort to bring music to our community. All Patron gifts are acknowledged in the Showcase program. Empty House Party tickets are benefits for Patrons at the Chopin level ($500) and above. Donations at the Tchaikovsky level ($150) and Beethoven ($300) include Showcase tickets. Patron donations can also be made in memory or honor of someone. It is not too late to submit new names for our Patrons’ list; please send suggestions to us at jsullybdm@aol.

We want to share this interactive 3D tour of the 2019 Showcase House. Because it is not a private residence we were able to take advantage of the opportunity to have the stunning design work documented with this cutting edge technology that was generously donated by Marion and Kevin Dole of Home 3D.us. It will be used this coming year as a marketing tool by PSHA and also made available to the designers who participated in Interactive 3D Tour of the 2019 Showcase House

Meeting & Event Location

All General Meetings, Board and Benefit Committee meetings will be held at the Shakespeare Club of Pasadena located at 171 South Grand Avenue in Pasadena.
