Take the Clinical Social Work Survey
Survey Response Deadline is August 6, 2018

NASW-NJ is working with the NJ Department of Human Services to explore the possibility of LCSWs becoming approved as independent behavioral health care providers under Medicaid/NJ Family Care.

In order to move forward with this process, we will need to provide information about the number of LCSWs in NJ who would choose to become Medicaid providers and the estimated number of Medicaid clients who would be served by these providers.

If you are an LCSW in NJ or are working towards your LCSW, please take a moment to complete this important survey to assist us in gathering the required information. You can access the survey here.

ADVOCACY/TAKE ACTION
Support Improvements to NJ's Family Leave Insurance Program

NASW-NJ continues to work with the NJ Time to Care Coalition to bring needed improvements to our state's Family Leave Insurance program that will allow more workers to access the program.

Have you needed time to care for family or will you need it soon? The Coalition is looking for people who can share their stories about the need for family leave. Email Dena at Time to Care to discuss how you can add your story to the Time to Care Coalition StoryBank. Your personal story can provide a powerful reason for legislators to act on this bill and ensure everyone who needs paid time to care for family can access it!

You can also sign this letter urging the Legislature to act to improve NJ's paid family leave program.
Take Action to Stop the 2020 Census Citizenship Question

NASW opposes the inclusion of a citizenship question on the 2020 Census. Such a question will depress response rates, particularly among immigrant communities and communities of color. That, in turn, will diminish political representation, from city councils and school boards to state legislatures and all the way up to Congress. It will mean less funding for communities that need it most for education, nutrition, housing and health care, because the resources these programs get depends on an accurate count.

You can leave a public comment urging that the Citizenship question not be included and that the 2020 Census be conducted in a fair, professional, and nonpartisan manner. The comment deadline is August 7.

Financial Social Work -- A Growing Specialty for Clinical Social Workers

Financial social work (FSW) is a growing social work specialty that uses financial therapy as an intervention to address the emotional and behavioral components of handling finances. Clinical social workers use financial therapy to address the psychosocial challenges patients experience because of their financial circumstances. For more information, click on this link .
