Summer Break is Underway!
On Wednesday we finished the 2018-2019 school year. Thank you to all of our students, teachers, staff, PTA, Partners in Education, and other volunteers that made this such a successful year. In this issue we have included several month of May highlights and summer reading opportunities to help avoid the "summer slide."

AVOID the Summer Slide!
Summer slide is the phrase used to describe the slide backwards that many children make in reading and math skills over the summer. You can combat summer slide by encouraging your child to devote a small bit of time each day to keeping up their reading, writing, and math skills.

Mental Health Awareness Month

May is Mental Health Awareness Month...and I set up a fun interactive table and shared with children, teachers, and parents the importance of self-care. I also shared some surprising, even jaw-dropping mental health statistics.

On the last day, the children had an opportunity to share some "good news" about themselves and they even identified a few people they can talk to if they are having a rough day. We had blast learning about mental health and the impact it has on our children, school, and families.
