Remaining Fall Deanery Council Meetings

Deanery Council Meetings are set for this fall. Deanery Councils consist of vestry designated lay representatives of parishes and clergy.

Pre-convention Deanery Meetings will be set for January, which afford parish delegates to convention the opportunity to receive and to discuss information about the Diocesan Convention and any resolutions that have been submitted.

Upcoming Racial Reconciliation Dialogue

The Diocese of East Carolina's Racial Reconciliation Commission hosts gatherings of people to foster dialogue about race. These events create a space to have candid discussions about race and racism while equipping attendees to continue these discussions in the contexts of their parishes and ministries. The upcoming dialogue will be held at Diocesan House on Saturday, November 9th from 9am to 4pm . If you'd like to register to attend, click here .
A Celebration of Homecoming & Healing at St. John's, Fayetteville

The Episcopal churches of Fayetteville and the Upper Cape Fear Deanery together with the
Episcopal congregation at Fort Bragg will host a service of support for our returning Veterans on Wednesday, Nov. 13th at 5:30 PM at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 302 Green Street, Fayetteville, NC. 

The Rev'd Ralph Clark will preach at the service which will include healing prayers and Holy Communion. Members of the Fayetteville and Fort Bragg communities in addition to those around the diocese are invited to attend.

The cost of dinner is $8.00 per person. Please R.S.V.P. to let us know if you plan to attend the dinner by contacting Trishia Medema via email or phone at 910-483-7405.

Administrator's Day at Diocesan House

An Administrator’s Day will be hosted at Diocesan House on November 7th from 9:30am until 1pm . This day is designed to provide tools for success to all Parish Administrators. UTO Grants

The United Thank Offering (UTO) is a ministry of The Episcopal Church for the mission of the whole church. Through UTO, individuals are invited to embrace and deepen a personal daily spiritual discipline of gratitude. UTO is entrusted to receive the offerings, and to distribute the 100% of what is collected to support innovative mission and ministry throughout The Episcopal Church and Provinces of the Anglican Communion. Rooted in Jesus Conference

Presented by the Episcopal Church Foundation,  Rooted in Jesus is a conference combining previous events from Forma - the Episcopal Network of Christian Formation Professionals, Evangelism Matters, TENS - The Episcopal Stewardship Network, and more. This event is in the Diocese of Atlanta, January 21-24, 2020. There are also pre-conference workshops and events, registration is separate from the main conference.

The Diocese of East Carolina is rallying together attendees in order to help reduce costs. Contact  Emily Gowdy Canady for more information about this event.
Clergy Transitions
The Rev'd Sarah Saxe's final Sunday at Zion, Washington is October 20.
The Rev'd Jeff Thornberg's last Sunday at Holy Trinity, Fayetteville was August 25th. He is now serving as Rector of Church of Our Saviour in Southern California.
The Rev'd Ron Abrams has been appointed as Priest in Charge at Holy Trinity, Hampstead and his first Sunday will be November 11.
The Rev'd Dr. Ellen Richardson is retiring from parish ministry and as the Priest in Charge of Church of the Advent, Williamston. Her final Sunday will be November 24.

137th Diocesan Convention
Save the Date & Budget Information for the
137th Annual Convention of the Episcopal Diocese of East Carolina

The 137th Annual Convention will be held at the Hotel Ballast in Wilmington NC on  February 6-8, 2020  . For budgeting purposes, please note the following:

  • Registration has increased to $190 per attendee.
  • Hotel Ballast Accommodations: $146 per night (includes parking)
  • Note: If you are not an overnight guest of the Hotel Ballast there is a daily parking fee $12.00 (self parking) and $15.00 (valet parking).

The Convention Committee makes every effort to keep costs low for convention, however, with the increased cost of venues and catering it was necessary to increase fees for 2020. Please note that our last fee increase was in 2014.
Resolutions for Convention

We are now accepting resolutions for the  137th Annual Convention   .

We ask that you please submit your resolution via email to Hannah Jarman in Microsoft Word form.

Please note: the deadline for resolutions to be published in the Convention Reporter is  Monday, December 2nd, 2019.  After Monday, December 2, we will still accept resolutions but it will not be published in the Convention Reporter.

Furthermore, in order for resolutions to be received after   December 31, 2019 , you must have ten delegate signatures that are representing three parishes.
