August 5 is the last date that tables will be set up in Carlson Hall and the Art Gallery to sign up to sponsor a child to attend school in Baiwalla, Sierra Leone. There is no shortage of children needing sponsors to go to school. Please sponsor a child now!
As of now, 58 kids have been sponsored to attend school. It is great news!
$8700 has been raised in less than a month. What a fabulous way to live out our collective faith and the greatest commandment of loving God and Neighbor. Thank You, Hennepin Community!

Conversations on a Way Forward
Starting Monday, September 24 at 6:30-9 PM
Last fall, Bishop Ough hosted 15 different Conversations on A Way Forward across the Dakotas-Minnesota Area. They were attended by over 1,000 lay and clergy members.
Again this fall, Bishop Ough will host a series of 15 gatherings across the Area to continue the Conversations on A Way Forward as the denomination prepares for the special session of General Conference on February 23-26, 2019 in St. Louis.
All interested persons are invited to participate. However, Bishop Ough encourages lay and clergy members of Annual Conference, local church lay leaders and key local church leaders, in particular, to attend.
Members of the Dakotas and/or Minnesota Conference delegations to the special session of General Conference will assist Bishop Ough in hosting the gatherings. This will provide an opportunity for the delegates to listen to and dialogue with participants.
These gatherings are timely for the following reasons:
The members of the Commission on a Way Forward have completed their work, and their report has been submitted to the Commission on General Conference.
The Council of Bishops has endorsed the One Church Plan.
Other petitions related to the Commission’s report will be available to the General Conference delegates and the church by this fall.
In addition to information about the proposals that will be before the delegates to the 2019 General Conference, the gatherings will provide a setting in which to share resources and tools for how to facilitate dialogue and build resiliency in local churches.
In preparation for the gatherings, Bishop Ough encourages persons and congregations to read Anatomy of Peace by the Arbinger Institute and God Unbound by Elaine A. Heath. Bishop Ough also encourages all United Methodists to participate in the denomination-wide prayer vigil, Praying Our Way Forward.

The Twin Cities’ leading chamber wind ensemble, Neoteric Chamber Winds, announces its 8th season of free concerts:
Performances begin at 7:30 PM and are free of charge ($10 donation suggested).
Neoteric Chamber Winds was founded in 2011 to explore music written in the 20th and 21st centures for uncommon combinations of wind instruments.
Featured this season are works by three young/living composers—Michael Markowski (31), Jennifer Jolley (37), and Jonathan Russell (39), and rarely heard compositions by Henri Marteau and David Canfield. We also honor two composers recently departed—David Maslanka (1943–2017) and Guy Woolfendon (1937–2016).

Summer Art Show
Rev. Jim McChesney is our featured artist for the Summer Art Show. In midlife, he took a watercolor class which led to painting weekly with friends in the Northstar Watercolor Society. He has taught painting, led tours, done art fairs, sold his work in coffee shops and galleries and given pictures to family and friends. Jim likes to paint all sorts of scenes: barns, churches, nature, people, and still life. "I believe God put art in each of us, so we must paint or draw or write or sing." Rev. McChesney has served Hennepin Church in the past as Minister of Evangelism and New Members. He now serves as a Visitation Pastor in the parish. The show will run in Carlson Fellowship Hall through late August.

UMW Ice Cream Social Benefiting Jericho Vision Clinic Was a Success!
The United Methodist Women would like to thank everyone who participated in our ice cream social on July 29. Thanks to your generosity, we raised $1039 for the Jericho Ministry Vision Clinic. This is enough to buy almost 5,000 pairs of prescription glasses. We are looking for donations of daylilies and hostas to plant in the HAUMC planters and all about the church. If you have extras, please bring them to church on the following Sundays: 5-Aug, 12-Aug and 19-Aug. You are invited to stay and help plant or just admire your donation on a following Sunday. If you don’t have any daylilies or hostas, you may want to pick some up at your local garden center as most are on sale in August. Thank you for helping to beautify the grounds.

. The approximate cost (depending on airfare) is $2700. We will stay at the United Methodist guest house in Baiwalla. There is solar power so there will be electricity, running water and a good bed. We will know the exact project details closer to the date. While we are there, we will continue to build our partnership with the Baiwalla United Methodist Church and with Rev. Judith Banya. Knit or Crochet a Welcome Scarf
The United Methodist General Conference will be coming to Minneapolis in 2020. The Dakotas-Minnesota Area has a wonderful opportunity to come together to provide hospitality for this conference.
We intend to greet every delegate, dignitary, bishop, and spouse with a handmade scarf, to serve not only as a memento of General Conference but also as a practical solution to drafty, air-conditioned rooms. That's where you come in!
We are inviting United Methodists in Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota to help us knit or crochet 10,000 purple scarves. We are calling this initiative the Lydia Project, after Lydia in Acts 16.
