Neighbors work to "beautify" bridge area

Ten Fondren residents gathered near the Old Canton Road bridge area on Sept. 28 for our first "Keep Old Canton Road Beautiful" Work Day. The workers removed 11 garbage bags and 3 truck loads of debris from the area.

The next work day is set for Saturday, October 26, at 9 a.m. We will be focusing on Old Canton Road between Galloway and Hawthorn.

All neighbors are welcome to join the effort. Bring gloves, garden tools, wheel barrows, etc. Safety vests, garbage bags and water will be provided.

A donation of $25 will keep the grass cut and leaves picked up for a week. Send checks to FRF, 4145 Old Canton Road, 39216 or use the donate button below.

Street Captain program keeps City informed of Fondren issues, needs

More than 20 Street Fondren residents attended the quarterly Street Captain meeting last week at The Cedars to discuss key issues from pot holes to abandoned houses. (See photo above.) In addition to sending reports monthly to city leaders documenting issues that need attention, Street Captain Chair Belmont Trapp recently met with City Engineer Dr. Charles Williams (see photo below) to discuss infrastructure issues and to get an update on improvements to Meadowbrook Road and Old Canton Road. Dr. Williams will be a speaker at the next OFNA meeting on October 15, 5:30 p.m. at St.James Episcopal Church.

Raise your hand, give Fondren a hug!

We are fortunate to live and work in a creative, vibrant community with a rich history. But the lifeblood of a successful community is its people - especially those people who are willing to raise their hands to keep the success fresh.

The year 2020 brings a host of great opportunities to Fondren. We need your help to grab all the possibilities and make them reality. We have volunteer jobs to fit every situation - from one-time event helpers to committee chairs for major projects. Let us know how you want to support Fondren by completing the questionnaire below! Give Fondren a hug by being part of its 2020 work plan.
