Exploring

Spring passes and one remembers one's innocence.
Summer passes and one remembers one's exuberance.
Autumn passes and one remembers one's reverence.
Winter passes and one remembers one's perseverance.
- Yoko Ono

Was it just a week ago when I marveled at the beauty of the brightly colored leaves across the valley and lining my street? When someone told me it would be 18 degrees in the morning and I faced sudden grief for the loss of my simple potted flowers?

It appears to be the season that I must acknowledge loss. It seems such a shame when juxtiposed with the color, beauty, taste, crisp air, the abundance of harvest.

But this is how the world inserts itself into our theologies, how we begin to understand our lives. It shoves itself at us, forcing us to acknowledge love, life, gifts and death and make meaning of it.

How might I make meaning of life (and mine) within the changing seasons? What  observance might I make into practice?
