Volume 3, Issue 30: May 31, 2020
Welcome to The Mt. Lion Roar where you can read about some of the things happening in the Altoona Area School District. With nearly 8,000 students, AASD is the area's top choice for Academics, Arts and Athletics.
Congratulations Class of 2020
AAHS staff will line the street in front of the B-building on Friday, June 5 from 3:00-4:00 PM to cheer and wave a final farewell to AAHS seniors on what will be their virtual Graduation day. Seniors are invited to drive along 6th Avenue in celebration of their special day. Please drive safely.
AAJHS Mixed Media submissions are now published! Although this year will not see a print edition, writings and art submissions were submitted in person prior to COVID-19 or online after the school shut down. Click on the photo to view the submissions.
Take the Challenge TODAY!
AAJHS students will return to the school June 2-4 for the purpose of returning Chromebooks, textbooks, library books, instruments, uniforms, choral sheet music, and PE locks. Students will also pick up awards at this time as well.

Students will be the only ones permitted in the building during their designated time.

Teachers delivered Recognition Baskets to Tito Rosado, Ethan Haigh, and Greg Turchetta. A visit was also made to Cameron Stevanus' mother to drop off an Altoona Mt. Lion statue as well as a copy of the 2020 Recognition Video. This year's recognition was in memory of Cameron who passed away earlier this year.
AAHS All-State Musicians
AAHS had eleven students earn All-State Musician honors from the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association. Congratulations to the students, Mr. Detwiler, Mrs. Detwiler and Mrs. Sipes!
AASD First Grade Spreads
a little Kindness
AASD First grade students shared their best definition of spreading kindness.

The Mountain Echo team finished up the year with this AAHS retiree story. They felt it was important to recognize the AAHS retirees, especially since many will not see them in person. Special thanks to Destiny Montgomery for leading the writing team and designing for the web.

Yearbook Signing
Yearbook Signing: SOCIALLY DISTANCED EDITION
We are excited to announce that the Altoona Area High School yearbook signing tradition is alive, and it’s fully digital to suit our socially distanced students.

Jostens has just launched a new platform, Yearbook Digital Signing Pages, that gives every student in our school the chance to create virtual signing pages, invite their friends to leave messages, and print out the final pages to keep with the yearbook as a permanent keepsake. This is free for every student whether they purchased a yearbook or not.

Share the link below with your student so they can get started with their yearbook signing.
