INTRODUCING! OUR 2019 NAFSA REGION VII CHAIR-ELECT
Allegra Laing
Elections in September
The Region VII Nomination Committee is pleased to present our nominee for 2019 Chair Elect. After a thorough review, the committee has chosen Allegra Laing as our nominee for Chair Elect.
|
Allegra Laing joined the Isabella Cannon Global Education Center at Elon University in March 2016 as a Study Abroad Coordinator. In June 2018, Allegra assumed the role of Assistant Director for Diversity and Inclusion in Study Abroad, where she leads the office in integrating inclusive excellence into all aspects of the study abroad advising process.
Allegra began her career in international education as a graduate intern at Spelman College (her alma mater), working with the Study Abroad and International Student & Commuter Services Offices.
Previously, Allegra served as an Education Abroad Advisor at Washington State University (2004-2008) and as the Study Abroad Coordinator at North Carolina A&T State University (2008 - 2016). Allegra has served as the chair of the North Carolina Association of International Educators (NCAIE) from March 2017 to March 2018, and the HBCU-Minority Serving Institutions representative for NAFSA Region VII from July 2013 - November 2016 |
In accordance with the Regional Operating Procedures, Region VII members will cast their votes for Chair Elect during
elections in September.

NEW NAFSA MIG FORMING:
Jewish Interest Group

Greetings!
My name is Lewis Lenard, and I am Partnerships Associate at KAHAL: Your Jewish Home Abroad. My colleagues at KAHAL and I are in the process of proposing a brand new Member Interest Group at NAFSA, the Jewish Interest Group (JIG).
The mission of the JIG MIG is to contribute to the dialogue of religious identity & religious diversity in International Education, as well as to be a space for professionals in the field to learn about the resources available for Jewish students who are studying abroad. If you are a NAFSA member, it would be much appreciated if you could sign our petition to begin the JIG at the following link.

2019 PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE
Do you have innovative ideas and strategies to share with your fellow English language program colleagues throughout the country?
Proposals can be submitted at this link. Registration for the conference will open in early October.
We know that this will be a challenging year for programs to send faculty and staff to multiple conferences. The EnglishUSA PDC is a great option because the focus is 100% on issues related to language programs, which also enriches the opportunities to network with colleagues during meals, between sessions, and at the reception.
More information is available on our
website. NOTE: Priority will be given to proposals submitted by EnglishUSA member programs. If you are not sure whether your program is a member, please check out our Find a Program or contact us directly.
