Council Meeting Cancelled on Tuesday, August 7

The City Council has cancelled the regularly scheduled meeting on August 7, 2018.  The next regularly scheduled City Council meeting is August 14. All Council meetings will now begin at 6:00 p.m. 
Appointments Made to Pro and Con Committees for "Connecting Bainbridge: SAFE Mobility Levy"

Community members were appointed to committees this week to write statements for the Kitsap County Voters Pamphlet to support and oppose the "Connecting Bainbridge: SAFE Mobility Levy" that will be on the November ballot. The committees include: 

Pro Committee: Loanne Harmeling, Herbert Hethcote, Jon Quitslund

Con Committee: Doug Rauh




The City received five applications for the Pro Committee and members were selected in a random drawing, as there is a limit of three members per committee. Doug Rauh was the only applicant for the Con committee.

Bainbridge Island residents will vote on a $15 million levy lid lift measure in November that would be used to fund non-motorized transportation projects, including shoulder widening, trail construction and sidewalk improvements.

During the July 24 City Council business meeting, the Council approved Resolution 2018-21 that explains how the funds raised by the ballot measure will be used and how the public will be involved in making decisions on the use of ballot measure funds.

City Council Moves Forward with Harrison Site for New Police-Court Location

The City Council voted on July 24 to move forward with a solution for a new police-municipal court location. The vote authorizes the City to pursue a letter of intent for the acquisition of the Harrison Bainbridge Urgent Care facility, located at 8804 Madison Avenue N.  
C ity Council Sets Public Hearing for Landmark Tree  Ordinance

The City Council set a public hearing date on the landmark tree preservation ordinance for Tuesday, August 14. 

The Council approved the landmark tree ordinance in a 6-1 vote on June 26 as an emergency ordinance after numerous public comments expressing concern about the loss of landmark trees on Bainbridge Island.
T emporary Lane Closure Next Week Along Section of Rockaway Beach Road

A section of Rockaway Beach Road NE, between the addresses of 5492 and 7850, will be temporarily reduced to one lane of traffic on Friday, August 10 due to beach nourishment activity.

The work is expected to begin around 7:30 a.m. and flaggers will be in the area directing traffic.

The work is part of an annual application of beach nourishment -- a process that is done to sustain the shoreline and marine ecosystem -- along the vertical bulkhead that was constructed during the 2013 Rockaway Beach Road stabilization project.

The City has a Mitigation Agreement with the Washington State Department of Fish & Wildlife (WDFW) for annual beach nourishment, biannual eelgrass monitoring, and vegetation monitoring.

You're invited: Dinner on the STO 
 
 

You are invited to join other community members for Dinner on the STO at 5 p.m. on Saturday, August 4. This is a "bring your own picnic" event, but tables and chairs will be provided along the Sound to Olympics Trail, located along HWY 305 between Winslow Way and High School Road. There is no cost to attend the event, but people must register for a table on Eventbrite. The Dinner on the STO was an idea by five Bainbridge Island residents who attended the 'For the Love of Bainbridge' event in June. They hope to bring the community together for one night to celebrate our love of Bainbridge and to have some fun while doing it! 
BIPD Welcomes You to Participate in National Night Out

Enjoy an evening filled with free food, games, prizes, touch-a-truck, police crafts and more! The event is designed to strengthen local anti-crime efforts and build police-community relationships.
