Newsletter for the Taylor Prairie School Community
June 3, 2019
Greetings!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for allowing us to work with your children this this school year.  We loved watching them grow and learn new skills.  It's amazing how fast time flies; with a blink of an eye, another year is over.  We hope you have a fun filled summer finding time to enjoy nature, learning and exploring, reading, and being together as a family.

During our Spring Sing, I announced Mrs. Hallock's retirement.  She has been an integral person at Taylor Prairie School for the past 14 years.  Prior to coming to Taylor Prairie, Kim worked at the district office in the Curriculum & Instruction Department.  The past 20 years, she has dedicated her time and talents in every position she has held.  We'll definitely miss Mrs. Hallock's wit, laughter, attention to detail, and her ability to connect with students and staff.  Please join me in wishing Kim the best in her new chapter.

Have a wonderful summer.  Hope to see many students at summer school!

It's not goodbye.... Kim Hallock, Office Lady

Just a quick little note, as I shuffle off into retirement.  Thank you all for sharing your children with me.  Through the 14 years I've been at Taylor Prairie, and if I did the math correctly, I've met 2,234 children.

Parents, I hope you realize how fortunate you are to have the dedicated staff of Taylor Prairie teaching and caring for your children.  I will miss you all, but plan to substitute in the school offices, so I may run into you again!

Monona Public Library
Explore the universe, travel around the world, through space, or dive to the bottom of some really great books. You will discover a new adventure with each visit to the Monona Public Library!

Preventing the "summer slide" continues to be the main objective of the summer reading program. For many families with elementary-aged children, the public library is the only community space available during the summer months where they can access free educational and cultural enrichment activities and programs.
The benefits of summer reading programming for children:
  • Children are motivated to read.
  • Children develop positive attitudes about reading, books, and the library.
  • Children maintain their reading skills during summer vacation.
  • Children have access to experiences that further their sense of discovery.
  • Children have access to experiences through which they can learn to work cooperatively.
