EfM
is a four year course of study for laity focusing on deeper understanding of scripture and stronger ability to think theologically, while studying Christian tradition from its beginnings to the present. Curriculum: biblical studies, systematic theology, church history, ethics, liturgics, and ascetical theology. The seminar group is the nucleus of the program, providing spiritual community for study, prayer, and reflection. Preparation involves at least 3 hours per week.

Pantry Musings
Salvation is a gift from God! You do not earn it! All the purity laws that are written in Deuteronomy and Leviticus, all of the purity laws that our forefathers in Judaism insisted on, are over come by God's gracious action on the cross. These old laws were the way to salvation in ancient Judaism. With the crucifixion these laws were overcome and our salvation was accomplished. I remember a young woman holding forth of the evils of Paul one day in the mess hall of Pacific School of Religion. After listening for a while a fellow alumni and I asked her why she was so vehement in her feelings about Paul, and she said he knew nothing about grace, to which my friend and I responded that Paul wrote the book on grace. I have a feeling that most of you have heard this story before. I make no apology for telling it again and again. Because if it had not been for Paul's dramatic conversion experience and his reflection on its meaning for him and all of the rest of us, we probably would not know that salvation is a gift of faith and not the result of works. If you want to read THE book then read Galatians for in that brief book Paul tells us that salvation is a gift freely given and not the result of obedience to the law, especially the purity laws. It is the result of God's promise made to Abraham that once our faith has been confessed than there is no further thing to be done about our salvation. We can not do anything to add to or take away from that confession. The purpose of the law is to provide some guidance in behavior, but it is not to enslave us as some persons might think. If we are to take seriously the command to love God and neighbor than that over rides any law in the Torah. We should break the law to accomplish love of God and neighbor. That is the example given to us by Jesus and many though out our history. -Ann Drake

The Lantern Theatre will be performing William Shakespeare's Macbeth here at
St. Peter's Parish Hall on August 10, 11, 16, 17, and 18 at 7:30pm.
A portion of the ticket sales will go to out Discretionary Fund.
Rehearsals have already started! The Lantern Theatre has installed a small stage in the Parish Hall. Be mindful of it when entering and using the Parish Hall.

The Human Library Project
The Faulkner County Library is partnering with COHO in a Human Library event.
The Human Library is a library of human beings, each representing a group that is exposed to stigma and discrimination. If you think you would be a candidate to be a Human Book, there will be an organizational meeting at the library on
Aug. 18 at 2:00 PM, where we hope to answer your questions.
If you think you would like to check out any one of our fascinating Human Books, we invite you to attend the event itself on
