New Teachers!
We welcome two new teachers to the SBA community. Amelia May, SBA Class of 2014, will be teaching Environmental Science. Amelia graduated with a B.S. in Marine Biology and a physics minor from the University of Rhode Island. Amelia brings with her research experience, authoring of articles in the Journal of Chemical Ecology, a scuba dive master and sailing instructor certification.
Over 15 years of experience as a senior scientist and as an environmental consultant, Dana McLaughlin will be teaching AP Biology. Dana earned a B.S. in Environmental Science with a concentration in biology from Philadelphia University. Dana also served as a laboratory teaching assistant for undergraduate students.

Back to School Night
Back to School Night is Wednesday, September 12 b
eginning at 6:00 pm in the auditorium. All parents are asked to attend the general meeting in the auditorium at 6:00 pm. Goals for the upcoming school year, introductions to new faculty, and an overview of building updates will be made. Parents will follow their daughters' schedules following the presentation.

Student/Parent Handbook
Students received their Handbook this past Friday. Please take the time to go over the Handbook with your daughter. Inserted in the Handbook is a sign-off on the reading of the Handbook, as well as Photo-release permission. Please return the signed form to the office by the end of this week. The form is also attached in the kink below.

Music Ensemble Classes Begin
Music Ensemble classes are starting this week.
Band and String Ensemble students should come to rehearsal with their instruments.
The Guitar Class will start on Friday, September 21. Students should have a guitar.

School Safety Assembly
On Tuesday, September 11, detectives from the Abington Township Police Department will be presenting a safety assembly and practice drill to all students. The presentation will focus on emergency and lockdown protocols,
including situational awareness and drills for fire, natural disaster, active shooter, hostage situation, and bomb threat. Throughout the school year, SBA will continue to conduct drills to ensure that students know the protocols for their safety. Some drills will be announced to parents prior to their event; some drills will not. We ask your full cooperation in NOT communicating with your daughters when a drill will occur.

Yearbook Photos and Packages
On Friday, September 21, all Freshmen, Sophomores and Juniors will take yearbook photos.
Students should have received a flyer this past Friday from Gurcsik Studios explaining the various packages that you may purchase. You are not obligated to purchase a package. Students will need blazers for the photo.

Counseling & College Services
Seniors:
- Reminder to Seniors to bring in your signed Transcript Authorization Forms. This is the first piece in initiating the college process here at SBA.
- We also ask that you encourage your daughters to sign up on Naviance to meet with college representatives that will be visiting SBA this fall.
- Also on Naviance will be a list of scholarships for which students can review and apply.
- Please use your Naviance accounts on a regular basis.
- College Open House posters are in the cafeteria along with Scholarship information.
Seniors & Freshmen:
Counselors will be conducting individual meetings with freshman and seniors beginning the week of September 10.

Drama Club meeting will be held on Thursday, September 13 at the beginning of lunch. All should attend.
Auditions for the Fall Shows will be Tuesday, September 18, Wednesday, September 19 and Thursday, September 20. You only have to sign up for one audition date on the bulletin board outside the auditorium. If you are involved in a fall sports please provide your schedules so I can cast accordingly and work around the schedule.
MAMMA MIA : Get excited! Auditions will be in December but we will be doing some dance/song rehearsals in anticipation of those dates. Details to follow!
NYC Trip is Wednesday, April 17 to see
Anastasia. Trip includes bus, show ticket and class. Sign-up sheets will be available on the board. More details to follow.

CHIP covers uninsured kids and teens up to age 19. With more than 111,000 uninsured children in Pennsylvania, this is great news for families!
CHIP provides quality, comprehensive health insurance for routine doctor visits, prescriptions, dental, eye care, eyeglasses, mental health, and much more. CHIP covers uninsured kids who are not eligible for Medical Assistance. For most families, CHIP is free - for others, it is low cost.
