"Transformation"
Mark 1: 21 - 28

21 They went to Capernaum, and when the Sabbath came, Jesus went into the synagogue and began to teach. 22 The people were amazed at his teaching, because he taught them as one who had authority, not as the teachers of the law. 23 Just then a man in their synagogue who was possessed by an impure spirit cried out, 24 “What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!” 25 “Be quiet!” said Jesus sternly. “Come out of him!” 26 The impure spirit shook the man violently and came out of him with a shriek. 27 The people were all so amazed that they asked each other, “What is this? A new teaching—and with authority! He even gives orders to impure spirits and they obey him.” 28 News about him spread quickly over the whole region of Galilee.

Children's Moment
Parents, read over the lesson below and use it to stir conversation as a family!
How is being a follower of Jesus different today from the examples you read in the Bible? How are they the same?
Last week you learned the meaning of the word disciple. When you read the Bible there are many stories of differently abled people coming to Jesus for healing. He would simply touch them or speak and they were healed. Today, we cannot find Jesus teaching in our local park and go to Him, asking for healing in the same way. How we seek Jesus today and ask for healing is different. Instead, we talk with Him through prayer and we have hope that He is listening and will answer our prayers. However what is the same now, as the stories in the Bible, is our faith!

Faith!
Jesus told the people, "your faith has healed you." Having faith is believing! Following Jesus is believing that he is listening to your prayers and using you to spread His love and healing to others. Jesus uses all of us to heal each others hurt with love and the loving things we can do. Sometimes the smallest act of kindness can be a miracle or an answered prayer for another.

Prayer
Dear Jesus, Help me to follow you by sharing your love and healing with others. Amen.
The Love Bug!
Create a Love Bug using craft materials in your home or using the PDF provided. Add dots to the bugs back and for each dot, try and think of an act of love and kindness you can do for someone else!

Rev. Justin Higgins & Ms. Sydni Duncan
"I thank God for using me as a teacher to guide, prepare and encourage each child academically, mentally and spiritually!" -Sydni Duncan
In partnership with the Alliance Center for Education (ACE), Avondale continues to be a site for remote learning for school age children. Every Tuesday through Thursday, we welcome 15 elementary through highshoolers, and two ACE staff members, Mr. Higgins and Ms. Duncan. The church financially supports the hot meals and snacks provided to the students each week. Avondalers also joyfully support the annual Christmas Angel Tree project and volunteers lead Bible studies and other activities for the students.

We welcome Ms. Sydni Duncan to Avondale as a new teacher for the ACE program. She is currently a student at UNCC, majoring in Child and Family Development and Psychology.

Thank you Avondale for your support of this wonderful ministry!
