A MESSAGE FROM THE RABBI
|
Join us for Rabbi Jay's Scholars Near the Beach program.
This week's program, generously sponsored by Bob and Judy Cook, features Jessica Dell'Era. Jessica is a second-year rabbinical student at the Jewish Theological Seminary who hails from the San Francisco Bay Area. She holds a B.A. in Dramaturgy from Pomona College and an M.A. in Education from University of California Berkeley. In her previous career, she taught in various secular and Jewish venues. She dabbles in music, visual art, kippah crochet, and web design. In her free time, Jessica enjoys reading, cooking, salsa dancing, hiking, and cycling."
Jessica's Friday D'var is entitled: "Heel! Parashat Eikev as God's Leash"
Jessica's Saturday lunch'n'learn topic is entitled: "Is Change in our Tradition New?" Jessica describes the session as follows: "Is it only nowadays that we ask our rabbis to clarify and reinterpret laws that no longer suit our society? Nope! We will discover that the Torah itself gives us tools for making Jewish law adaptable, as it has always been."
Jessica will also lead portions of the Friday night and Saturday morning service. The Lunch and Learn will start at about 12:30.
Join us for an portion of this Shabbat that you like!
Shabbat Shalom - Rabbi Michael S. Jay

THE WEEK THAT WAS... |
Thank you to Debbie Lubetkin for conducting a wonderful yoga session Friday afternoon at the JCC as part of Sheri Horowitz Jay's Rosh Chodesh program welcoming the month of Av. A special treat of acai bowls from Frutta Bowls topped a healthy afternoon.
Av beckons
Let the tears arise
for they water
the garden.
They prepare the ground
One lovely way to start the day is listening to the poetry of Richard Morgan and enjoying the lovely illustrations by Pat Morgan that are part of their latest publication "My Lighthouse Key" Thank you Richard & Pat for sharing your talent with us last Sunday morning.
Friday evening, a large crowd of friends and family were at services to honor Judith & Don Pripstein. The family came from as far as Texas to participate in the service which included special readings selected by the Rabbi. A parody to the tune of Clementine was written for the occasion by Phyllis Sisenwine and performed by the congregation, a letter of commendation by Harold Farin was read and Rose Valentine created a top ten list of "Why Judith & Don Pripstein Should Be Honored." A special Oneg Shabbat followed. Thank you to Diane Hoffman and Robin Valentine for helping with the Oneg prepartion.
TOP TEN REASONS TO HONOR JUDITH AND DON PRIPSTEIN
10. They are loving parents and grandparents
9. Judith makes the best chocolate chip cookies
8. Don can chant a haftorah in a moment's notice
7. Don & Judith are avid Penn State fans
6. Judith created the beautiful torah covers and wimples on display tonight
5. Don does all the JCC proofreading - a job no one else wants
4. Judith cares for and loves the JCC library
3. Don has been president of three synagogues - oy
2. They are a devoted and caring couple
And the number one reason to honor Judith and Don Pripstein is....
BECAUSE THEY SO DESERVE TO BE RECOGNIZED BY THE JCC OF LBI FOR ALL THEY DO.
